    im currently studying media

one thing ive learned so far is that if people kill each other because of a form of media, they're mind's seriously screwed.
    i second that.....

of course, if the murderer had being losing the entire match, he could get mildly irritated. But if the victim had being bragging and possibly taunting him and that might cause the murderer to lose it and do something that is not right.....

in my country, staring at others for more than 5 secs in the eye can lead to stabbings. So to me, this kind of thing aint the worst, yet.

but then in my country, murder is considered as seriously as treason and under 16s (NOT 18s) can be hung !!!!!!!

I am a teenager of 14 years old. I swear more often because of counter-strike because I get used to it. Everybody gets frustrated. My dad even has a shotgun I can get at any time. BUt have I ever gotten arrested, No, Have I killed anyone, No, Drugs, No, Fornication, No. I play counterstrike DAILY. Abotu 3 Hours a DAY. Counterstrike has not influence me or my brother who is 17 and has played it since beta 1. Don't tell me Games mess up peoples minds. My parents were good to me and taught basic hospitality and raised me well. I think that it is your parents and the people you hang out with are the people who make the most impact. Gaming lets you get rid of pent up anger that can result in suicide, Homicide, Genocide and many other things.

well...TERRORISTS WIN! That kid got 0wned. Do you think the guy used aimbot?

[Edit: No, but I think you're banned for such a crude, insensitive remark over something as serious as someone losing their life. You won't be missed in the meantime.]

I think you should shut up and stay out of this thread if that's all your intelligence allows you to contribute.

think for a second. first you say that you have been desensitized because of cs, then you say cs doesn't affect the way people think.
I while ago an experiment was done to see if violent games DID have a link to violent outbursts from people, started due to the link with Doom 2 and a US Shooting leaving a teacher dead and some pupils dead as well (as well as the teenager, who killed himself afterwards). This pupil avidly played Doom and Doom2, and the experiment wanted to find out if there was a link.
there was another experiment done similar to that, except it had nothing to do with cs. this is how it went.

1: you would be asked if you wanted to take part in an experiment about the benefits of shock therapy, and you would accept.

2: you would go into a room, and see through a one way mirror a guy sitting at a table, and would be able to hear him via a microphone.

3: the scientist next to you would ask the guy questions, and every time he got one wrong you would shock him. as he got more wrong the shocks were to get longer and longer.

4: after a couple of shocks the guy would start to show pain and ask to stop. the scientist would tell you its alright and tell you to continue.

5: some people would stop then, others would continue, while the guy screamed in pain at every shock, and even to the point where the guy appeared to pass out.

the person being tested was in fact you, and it was testing how long you would go before you stopped. the man who appeared to be in pain was in fact an actor, and the screams of pain were recorded. the study was shocking, because the average person went for a long time before forcing the trial to end.

this proves that the average person already is desensitized to violence. if an average person would let the man feel such pain and continue, how long do you think the average cs player would go? some might say they would stop at the same point, but i think that all that simulated violence must have SOME effect.

It's not the game, which is obvious. The problem lies with people, and it's easy to dismiss it because we don't like being wrong, but we allow ourselves to make the game mean more to us than it's really supposed to.

I think it's time people start to relax a lot more when playing their games. Instead of the game releasing bulit-up tension, people allow it to take too much meaning and thus this brings the opposite effect, which is probably why you see the "sore loser" scenario spilling out into violence.

I really hope no video game player contemplates genocide because he had a bad day. Sheesh. Killing one person goes way too far...but an entire race? Heh. I kid, I kid.

No seriously, I do and have always agreed with what you say about parenting. Three cheers for good parents.

all you die-hard supporters must get your head out of your asses. This did happen because of CS. All CS players have experienced the rush of winning and the shear frustration of losing. Add some crazy people with guns and this shit happens. Start looking at things objectively instead of simply denying and formulating alternate scenarios. Otherwise, keep playing, it's a good game.
come on..... nobody asked the kid to bring a piece to a freakin lan cafe. If we start lookin at thingz objectively, blame the person who gave the kid a gun. blame the punk shit dog which shot kwee. Don't blame it on the beloved CS.

Somehow, my normal quotefest ways just don't seem appropriate on this particular subject. It's not that there hasn't been anything that I feel like responding to... it's more that I feel that my rebuttals wouldn't really add much to the discussion. With that in mind, I'm instead going to add just a few more thoughts.

First off. It seems that many people here are under the impression that only crazed, derranged psychopaths with naturally violent tendencies commit murders. We have kaxman claiming that the influence of his parents (and all parents in general) was so important that no circumstances could come close to having that level of impact on his decisions.

Unfortunately, things aren't that simple. If I locked kaxman in a room, and did whatever I wanted to him (assuming I'm somewhat evil), eventually chances are that I could evoke such a hatred in him of myself (and possibly others) that he would most definitely seize the opportunity to kill me and liberate himself, should the situation arise. Even deeply held beliefs can often be torn apart by the right set of circumstances and accompanying emotions.

I'm against murder. I'm a consciencious objecter to military service, and have avoided following one of my potential careers (as a police officer) because of the lethal enforcement that may be required. However, were I to be put in a situation where those I love dearly were threatened, I don't really doubt for a second that I would be willing to protect them at any cost. Our intents can be good and right in life, but our base emotions can often have more control over our final actions than we wish.

I guess we have to be aware of what our emotions can lead us to do, and not get ourselves in situations where we're more likely to be carried away. I know that those times I have been depressed in life, I was far more bound up in my performance at CS than I am when things are going better in life.

Any way you look at it, though, the killer in this case simply went way too far. He shouldn't have had a weapon, and the fact that he did denies him any ability to say this was anything other than premeditated murder. He was carrying the gun because he was willing to use it, and so it went.

I don't know, I find all of this incredibly saddening, yet somehow almost unsurprising. One day, I hope to see a world where this isn't the reality we're faced with. I don't see that coming about any time soon, however. :-\

Why are there guns in the hands of people at lan centers? That is the first problem. I am completely against gun control, but seriously, people need riffles to hunt and stuff, but why are people carrying hand guns (I'm assuming it was a handgun) into lan centers. I hope the person responsible for this gets the chair/gas/whatever. People who can't be responsible productive members of society, shouldn't be in society. I hope justice is served and he is taken care of. Condolences to the families of those involved.
well.. they probably didn't have a handgun while inside the Lan center, they probably left the lan center to GET the handgun. Ahhh.. poor guy.

There's something that's typically overlooked in a case like this: What does it look like from the other side? Sure, school shootings, things like this, just look at the end result and place blame haphazardly. Why not? Saves you the trouble of having to put any real thought into it. How are you people any different from the people blaming videogames? Being so quick to condemn one side makes you just like them. You're trying to cover your own asses, nothing more.

One side went too far in his violence. The other went too far in his obnoxiousness. What other factors were involved in this situation? Pfff. Who cares, huh?

As most people already stated this, i will make this short. People who have the nerve to poke fun at this is both stupid and incredibly ignorant. Wake up. There is a difference between computer games and real life.
