There's still some bugs with the shield; but the version seems to be shaping out pretty well.
I have a Geforce2 Pro and I don't see any smoke fps bugs (other than the normal) on my machine. I get a solid 85fps (vsync) and it drops depending on how close I am to the smoke, etc. It's no worse than what the previous smoke grenade was.
I wish there was more servers with bandwith on there, I'm tired of playing with a 110 - 150 ping :P and then skyrocketing to 350 or 550.Comment

I agree with bLaCKaT on the smoke issue. I have not experienced any slow down and my computer is a 1.4 AMD t-bird.
The new buy menus take some time to get use to. I did have to go and re-bind some keys to make them work. It looks like you can bind F2 again. I did not try to bind anything to F1 so that might still be the key that they are using for friends. Although nothing happens when I press it in game.
I did find some nice servers out there but unfortunately, after getting HS on the admins I was promptly banned. Stupid noob admins. I think that since the 1.6 server are not able to run secure most admins are confusing skill for hacks. Is unnecessary banning/kicking something that those that have played the beta going to have to deal with when the official version comes out?Comment

Is it possible that some servers aren't fully updated yet as well? I spent yesyerday morning playing with a riot shield on one server, and I was invincible with it. Nothing could penetrate the shield at all. Later on in the evening I played on another server, and my shield seemed paper thin. I once again lost all faith in the shield. If they do in fact hammer out all the bugs, and the shield is completely invincible, I think the shield really will be a great weapon.Comment

You pretty much summed it up there.
1.6 is pretty good so far. A soon as valve fixes this stuff:
*Buy menus
*Cant press uparrow in console to get previous command
*console stops you from moving forward if you try to use it while moving.
*New smoke grenades seem to cause fps problems even on really good machines.
*Shields still seem penetrable.
Then it will be even better.
The fps issue is very annoying. I used to play cs at 1280*1024 with 4xfsaa (OGL) with the fps never dropping below the vsync-limit. Now i'll have 15 fps when I'm in a smokegrenade. Thats very strange - isn't a ti4600 supposed to handle CS? But I allso think the new smokegrenade rox - it's both effective and good looking. The second might be the problem.
About the console I found one more issue: You cant press the console-button to close the console, but u can open it with it.
I also have a problem that when i have looked at the scores (and maybe muted some freak) and I release tab: my gun goes off. Or more precise: attack is executed. If its not annoying enough to shoot a teammate in the back because of that - throwing a he at two friends IS (happened to me yesterday). Very annoying bug - should be fixed.
There's tons of other stuff too, like airstrip still having the old overview, but these are the major things.
That's my 15 cents.Comment

I have a P4 1.8Ghz, 512MB, Asus P4B533, Asus GF4 MX460 using 29.80 drivers, on WinXP with SP1 installed.. And I have no fps problems whatsoever with the smoke in CS 1.6..
If some people have problems with it, it must be a bug with some sort of combination hardware or software (drivers?) I think..Comment

once Micro-borg pwn CS and WON they will use Steam to push a bunch of crap on us and sell there broadband service. i can't wait for "rizzuh's CS pop-up killer alias" so i don't have to look at adds for bill gates every time i play CS. CS is the largest gaming base ever and now it's time to cash in. pay to play can't be far behind. programs that connect to the 'net by themselves (and you can't turn it off) are evil! it's not a BETA it's a GAYTA.
too bad 1.6 is as addicting as all previous CS versions combined. now there is finally a reason to buy a PARA: killing Shields. the PARA should be T only and slightly better to balance the shield.Comment

RaptorRage wrote "CS will never be pay to play as it would violate the EULA for Half-Life and CS Retail. Also Steam is a way for Valve to get away from publishers, so we won't have to worry about M$ overtaking HL or CS..." i so hope you are right
having to look at pop-ups ads is "paying to play" and once M$/vivendi/valve owns the WON system they will have us all by the balls: they will own the game, the developer, the WON servers and the distribution network.Comment
