well duh. first we need to learn these maps. then the few of us that know and practice TEAMWORK have to teach the rest of the community stuck on fy_ maps.

What we should do is make a selection of servers with fy_ maps to accomdate for all the brainless deathmatch fools out there, and then some servers with as_ maps for those who still appreciate Counterstrike.



That being said, it would leave us with about 10,000 fy_ servers and about 10 as_ servers.

Yeah, a lot of people on cs today dont know how to use the guns. Hell, just the other day i saw a noob who was throwing his awps at the enemy. After that dident work he started to pull the pins on he nades, point them at his target and wait for them to fire. That (obvisully) dident turn out so good either. Iceworld is just sutch a good place for showing noobs their place. I like it because even if your a complete moron who cant comprehend the phrase "teamwork" you can still get good scores and waste noobs too! yeah! Now isent that what cs is all about? Wasting noobs?

Seriously, folks. I think you're getting a little carried away with the "doom and gloom" and "this is the end of CS" because "fy_iceworld isn't a true map! Woe! Woe! There goes the neighborhood!"



There isn't anyone (intelligent) posting here who could rationally argue that fy_iceworld is true CS. It's not. It's powder-puff shoot-em-up fluff. Anything said to the contrary is self-delusional.



Look at it for what it is. An alternative when you feel like that alternative. You've been playing de_cbble for the last half hour and some 8-year-old terrorist keeps camping the sniper nest over T spawn EVERY ROUND, whether he has the bomb or not. When his team dies, he doesn't go and try to find the bomb. No, that would be an objective. And LORD KNOWS we can't have objectives that require rational thought and/or planning. Vote him off, you say?!? There's no such thing as voting a player off a pub! That would require people to pay attention to text that appears on their screen, decision-making skills, and the memory to keep track of who's doing what so they know WHY the little bastard is getting voted off. All this assumes they give a crap about even enabling the console. (rant off, sorry, got a little carried away there).



After half an hour of this, you're just tired of it. You want to throw a bunch of idiot noobs in a small enclosed space with yourself, and let them know the wrath of ages. And let's not have any objectives get in the way of your total annihilation victory. They're going down, all of them, and they're going to have to repeat the falling motion again, in less than 30 seconds, and this will continue until they log off. They, not you. Cause this is your house and you're tired of cutting slack.



I've got good news! There's a map for that sort of thing! No doubt you see where this is going.



It's not true CS. You'll never see fy_iceworld in the CPL. It's cotton candy fluff. But it CAN be fun if you're in the mindframe for it. Idealists need not apply.

This may be the wrong forum for this sort of thread, but here goes anyway...



The CS community on the whole, does not accept newcomers to the fold very willingly. We're sort of cautious, "are we sure we really want to start seeing you on this server on a regular basis?" people.



It wasn't always like this. I remember when I started playing CS, there was a wealth of "training guides" and "tips and hints" pages to be found. You could find a good player on a server, ask him to log onto another server with you and give you some good training. And they would.



Try a stunt like that nowadays. "haha n00b. lookit tha n00b, everybody! HAHAHAHA! Get the **** out of here!" and a vote kick is promptly launched, courtesy of AdminMod. After a few more repeat performances, the new blood logs off, looks at the Counter-Strike CD he just bought at Best Buy, and wonders why he wasted the money.



At that point, they give up playing, or they turn to hacks. "I'll show 'em the real n00b."



We have met the enemy, and he is us.



Is it any wonder that maps like fy_iceworld find success? Why the fy_iceworld servers are populated by "idiots, lamers, cheaters" or whatever that guy a few posts back said? Here's a server where nobody really gives a crap. Nobody's riding your ass or admin_slaying you cause you don't know where the bombsites are on de_survivor. You don't have to wait as long to climb up the Counter-Strike learning curve, staring at your screen in spectator mode for 5 minutes at a stretch only to die 30 seconds after the round restarts; no, you're up and running, getting valuable aiming practice and weapon familiarity in a matter of seconds.



Once the newbie feels he's got the hang of staying alive, maybe then he tries his hand at true CS maps, and can keep from getting killed long enough to sort of get to know the layout of maps, how objectives and strategy works etc.



And all this could have been avoided if we'd just been a little more friendly with the fellow in the first place.



Don't gripe about fy_iceworld. Gripe about something worth the trouble. The true decay of Counter-Strike can be traced back to the attitude of the people, not a silly map.
