Exactly. This would go well in the new Mailbag Subject. This map is horrible for newbies and it teaches the exact opposite of what they should learn (to become decent anyways).

one objective of a SWAT team is to kill all resistance is it not? everything is fine about iceworld if only it would be a bit darker. cant see the xhair.

Iceworld doesn't even serve the purpose that some people seem to like it for, mainly because of that damn buy zone. As soon as you loose once, thats it, don't expect to ever win again, because the enemy team is going to have at least one person with armor and a grenade. Four or five grenades head your way at the start of the map and you may as well just quit because that should pretty much finish you off and the other team'll just run to the middle again and buy more grenades.



If the buy zone was gone, then I could understand some people wanting to play the map, I mean, the realistic weapons in unrealistic situations could be fun[yes, I know, it's not really CS, you aren't countering any sort of strike in this map at all] as long as you weren't just getting massacred by grenades every round.



All in all, it's fun or about 10 minutes, or roughly 30 rounds of play, then it gets monotonous and you go back to playing on that de_rats server.

i hate it, because its an instant deathmatch, but the fact that so many play the map just proves that a lot of people out there don't want to have "complicated" things to do.. like plant a bomb and defend it

In most pubs, people don't follow the objectives. You'll either get an afk who's stuck with the bomb, or some random idiot who decides to not follow his team and go to the other bombsite alone to die, which lets the other team camp the bomb and win.

de_maps are only fun in matches and scrims, imo.

With iceworld, you don't have to depend on your team one bit. It's you vs. the other team. You don't have to rely on people who don't even realize that they have a radar, or those who don't know how to drop weapons. If your whole team dies, good. More people for you to kill.

I love iceworld so much that I even made a CS movie about it. If anyone's interested, you can get here...

Yeah seriously. Why do you all whine so very much about how Iceworld is "ruining CS?" Do you even know what this "CS" is that you think is being ruined? Whether you realize it or not the majority of play that goes on (i.e. in pubs) is NOT what CS was originally intended to be, and hordes of public players have ALREADY "ruined" CS and turned it into a big game of DM on objective-centered maps! If you want a better look at what CS is supposed to be I suggest you watch some pro clan matches.



For those that enjoy DM CS, fine, you have your own servers. For those that enjoy "serious" play, it's not tough to find that sort of people out there too. And if you want the middle ground of the pubs, you have quite a selection to choose from. I see no reason why these three groups can't exist independent of one another. If you don't like the proliferation of styles of playing CS that are contrary to your own, then welcome to the real world, buddy. Shut up and eat your peas.

Iceworld is a hot-spot for campers and AWP whores. That's why I both hate and love this map.

I think everyone should play the game in a way that makes it fun for them. With that being said I think iceworld is garbage. It isn't counter-strike at all in my opinion. Being able to "own" on iceworld just means you are pretty decent with your weapons, but weapon/aim skill is about 20% of what CS is about. Rizzuh will argue to the death that teamplay is the most important aspect of counter-strike, and I'll agree that that holds true for winning in matches and on maps like de_dust and aztec. But aside from the competitive side of CS what makes the game fun for me is sneaking around like a ninja picking off the the enemy one by one, flanking em where they least expect it, and just being stealthy and quick in my tactics. The best maps for this type of play are backalley, oilrig(especially as the vip ;p), tundra, estate, havana, chateau, etc...Few people share my views but I manage to sleep at night.



Enough rambling, my point is that everyone enjoys CS in a different way, and the majority of the people enjoy it in the DM/frag fest style as demonstrated by fy_iceworld's popularity, but just play the maps you like and make the most of it.

I think the reason a lot of people hate Iceworld is because it is the epitomy of noob infested maps. Basically the same people who love iceworld, are the same people who go to the wrong bomb sites with the bomb. Running around like a moron becomes old after the first month of playing CS. Iceworld is just a big festival of moronic behavior.
