Nice article. I think, in response to trologo's statement above, you are in fact correct, there are discernable types of players...but look at all sports today in America (and I would state the world)...any plateau of competitive sports spans a gamit of 3 or 4 types of players. e.g. basketball sports the courtside players (trash talker style and rough courtyard ball), the fun on the court playing of friends, the competitive team playing from the little kids up to pros. My point is, you will always have a distribution of player types. That is part of what continues the longevity of the game in my opinion.

I'm looking at the poll now and it says 30% of approx 2000 people have played CS for 3 years or more. That's 600 people. Of all the people that visit this website, I'd say over half are nubs who've played for less than 2 years. Why do you kids lie?? Even in game you kids say you've played since beta 5 or something yet you suck. DON'T LIE. ADMIT YOU'RE A N00B. I've played since beta 6 and there weren't that many servers out there. That was 2-3 years ago. I doubt that most of the people that visit this site have played that long.



To all Vets: I challenge you tonight to go into a server and ask some kid how long he's played. Then ask him the order of the betas. 6.. 6.5... 6.6... 7.... 7.1.... I bet any money they don't have a damn clue. I always do that and they say like beta 7.9 was the last version before 1.0. They make a complete ass out of themself. Then laff at him and everyone will join in. ^_^



N00bs: I suggest you quit thinking you're awesome and take a seat. Its alright to be a nub. You're just learning. You don't have to lie. Well folks Im a very proud noob who has been playin for three weeks. And My tale is a sad one of decending into geekedness and god help me im enjoying the slide. Ive been many things and I have a problem with getting addicted to things, allsorts.

But Coke problems, and girl stalking aside, :p Ive been 'cool' DJ'ed at Ministry of Sound, Legends Colliseum (UK impressed only!) etc. And im still into the scene. BUt when i was going out to fabulous parties and pulling model chicks and doing ridicuously large amounts of drugs, I wasnt happy cos the people were assholes, sure not all, but a lot.

Games exist to increase the pleasure of existence, therefore they are no different form anyother activity humans do. My girlfriend (A swedish former pole dancer) hates me getting 'plugged in' and its good that she limits my activities. (Healthy) But little does she know that she (and adsl) are the cause, I went to Sweden with her and played CS for the first time, till then I was playing Jedi 2 and Tacops (mostly at work) but not as much as I play CS now (not aT WORK CRAPPY GRAPHICS). So what is it about CS? y

You people, a game may be good, but it isnt single player, its multi/team/and interactive. When you can be botherd to chat to some dude, you are intereacting with real people who obviously have a common interest. CS Rules cos we do as people. So loyalty is not just to the game, but to the people you play with, So keep playin and when I shoot you in the face or you stab me cos im a n00b and you 3L173 remeber tat we re people having fun, adn the next time i will have got better. And the joy is beating that other person who beat you before, or if not them then the hundreds of more experienced who have skills and stuff, that i dont yet, adn learning how to be good against PEOPLE!! Not against the game! ANyway ramblin now, PEace and lurve and lets keep the wars in games, and off the streets, from NY to Baghdad, there all PEOPLE!!

He MAY have been wrong with useing the word "loyalty", but that dosent mean that he's an idiot, and it certainly dosent mean that your smatter then him. He obvisully has a different perspective on the matter then you, and comming to the conslusion that he is dumb and you are smart is just plain stupid. Ive been playing cs for 2 years and im not some hardcore beta loving fan, howeve since i started playing it it really is the only game i play



ive got a ps2 but the games suck and ive completed them all and only use it as a dvd player - i hate you sony! U SUCK



However i am very very addicted to counter strike (not loyal just addicted) as in i play everyday for long periods of time unless there is stuff i really should be doing.

Having said that, im not a techno geek as i know fuk all about operating systems and programming - all i like doing is playing games. Technological side of wetting myself if i see a good pc isnt for me.



My main problem is that the only type of computer games i like are realistic fps, im a die hard goldeneye fan and played that solidly for 4 years now its a bit too dated i only play cs - i discovered cs when goleneye was getting near end of its life

my crap pc doesnt help matters but im getting a new one in a month mainly to play cs as poor system can ruin your game too often resulting in sore hands from punching the desk when i die from a bullshit kill



the addictive aspect of cs for me is that it s a very good game first of all but its a realistic fps - no stupid aliens - (half life sucks) but also you cant complete it as every game you play is different. Sure some games are tedious and boring and if i play it too much i get sick of it for a while but that and the interactive aspect which doesnt feature on 1 player mode and the teamplay makes cs stand out

imo nothing comes close to cs at mo because it really is the best fps out there at the moment

Sure some newer games look better but their gameplay sucks or cant run on my system - but goldeneye is the greatest game of all time but cs is the best game out there at the moment to play



PS im addicted to computer games not loyal to a brand or marketing company - if condition zero bites then i wont get it or i if i do i wont play it. I play the best games out there [at least theyre the best in my opinion] i dont care if theyre made by slaves in an african sweatshop all i want is gameplay :)

I feel loyalty to a game (in my case) is deleting anything resembling a game from my box except cs/tfc. It's been this way since the day I installed cs. (Some 3 years ago) I play @ least 2 hours a day, 30 mins here, 30 more there, and I have yet to get tired of it.

However, I now only play with bots, as the only thing I can trust in a human teammate, is that he'll not cover me & watch as I die and/or for my killer to be out of ammo so he can take him on. (or hide in the farthest possible corner with an awm :P). But when you do meet up with someone who knows a little about tactics/teamwork and how to cover, it brings the game up to it's proper level, a level it is impossible to get sick of.

This is the type of play I've grown to love from cs, & I will be loyal to it untill my eyes fall out.

I think that the word "loyalty" means less now than it used to by applying it to objects with no emotion. You have to ask yourself, would you protect CS because you are loyal to it, or because you can't live without it because you are bored all the time? Pablo is right in what he is saying. You may think that you are a loyal CS player but you may only be addicted or you jsut mistake liking the game/product for loyalty. I have seen Pablo's point and although in his first post I thought he was being harsh I believe that he is correct. Can you really have morals based on a game? And if you do, you are definatly mising something.
