My mother used to tell people that, and it seems to be working here. Please stop claiming you win, and you're pissing all over me. I've clearly got more people arguing on my side. Oh wait I forgot, your's aren't responding becuase they only post once.
I don't see you posting anything better

The reason they only post once is because I don't need flamers telling you how stupid you are, I can prove it myself

finally someone with a good argument

so what is loyalty with desire?

but you can't feel towards counter-strike as you feel towards your wife and kids. if you think you can you obviously haven't spent much time with your family in a while

        and it's pablo, not poblo
Agreed Pablo. We both have a different variation of the word "loyalty", but both appear correct in their own context. I will agree to disgree.

Thanks for ignoring my point. You are right that many people only play CS because it's the best game out there, I am trying to show you another reason why people might be considered "loyal".

Whilst loyalty may have one broadly encompassing definition in a dictionary, as soon as it is included in a sentance it is given context. This is the reason why dictionaries provide several statements demonstrating meaning, so you can find the one applicable to this particular context. You cannot use the same word in a different context to prove me wrong. There are different sets of reasons how (or why) a dog is loyal to his master compared to a husbands loyalty to his wife. Although it is said that the man is being "loyal", isn't his wifes long term companionship and love infinately more valuable than that one night stand and all the problems it causes. Could those problems be the real reason why you stick with your wife? Changing games does not have much of the subtle reasoning found in the above "loyalty" issue. I find "loyal" defined in plain terms; firm in allegiance. That may sound awkward to apply to this context, but it IS applicable in the instance of "loyalty" to CS.

Your next point (more directed) suggests that all players who would be considered "loyal" are actually addicted. An addiction implies a physical (or psycological) reason for being unable to stop. I think that the large majority of players could stop, but they choose not to. When we are unable to play CS for long periods of time (I have travelled, I hope you have too) we do not suffer from "withdrawal symptoms", and I don't pine for "my CS". I would consider myself "loyal" to CS.

There are always a few who cannot withstand the rigors of life in the real world. With computer games becoming more realistic and separate from the individual, the same impartiality of life is intruding on these previous havens. What a shock, these domains start to claim their victims. Please try and tell me that these people are the only demonstration of "loyalty", I am sure that you wouldn't be so stupid. Hopefully I may have helped you to see some distinction between the loyalty of players, and demonstrated addiction. - Tink

although I can honestly say your opinion drives me nuts, I will agree to disagree as well, because I'm getting tired of arguing and I guess it doesn't matter what you say as long as your audience understands what you're talking about

"There are different sets of reasons how (or why) a dog is loyal to his master compared to a husbands loyalty to his wife."

but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about what it MEANS to be loyal to them.

"Although it is said that the man is being "loyal", isn't his wifes long term companionship and love infinately more valuable than that one night stand and all the problems it causes."

I was talking about an ideal situation, where the man would never be found out, and would have a long term affair. Otherwise loyalty would not be as big an issue.

"Your next point (more directed) suggests that all players who would be considered "loyal" are actually addicted."

I was using addicted loosely. I couldn't think of a better word (maybe entranced?) I really meant they were just liking it a whole lot.

"I have been with CS for a long time and I remember many times when I disliked it. When it was first released it was ugly, I also wanted more choice. I stuck with it, was "loyal" and played often (HL deathmatch was better)."

            was that your point?

Haha yes... (writes an article about all the ppl who are addicted to cs, but can't admit it, and therefore call it 'loyalty').

My point was more that I feel you can be loyal to CS because it is a changing game. It stays constant in idea but not in application. Because it goes through a revision system it has often changed, sometimes in ways I have not liked. I would say I have stayed "loyal" to it because I stuck with it through adversity (exaggerated but you get my point). *I have just re-read that post, and its not entirely clear, sorry.*

I think you could insert "means" into the "dog, husband, wife line" and still come out with a similar inference, but thanks for trying to understand my point of view. - Tink

That was a great article and I could not have agree'd with you more about, well every point you made. I am so loyal to CS that when I go into Electronic Boutique I wont even go look at the PC games (I have an XBOX) because I know I might be temped to buy WC3 or something to that effect, and then end up spending even a minute away from cs, which I cannot afford. I run a cs-community with around 6-8 clans affiliated with it and 6 servers, multiple forums and all that good stuff, so I am always busy with cs. CS is a passion of mine, and I am proud to say it, and I've got around 10 people in my area into counter-strike so you are DEAD right with that one.

i cannot believe you really are 24
Not all the time, sometimes you have a lot of friends, or a good clan, or your part of a great community and you actually enjoy playing cs on a day to day basis, believe me it happens man. I run a clan and community and I have MANY loyal clan members aswell as regular public server-goer's.. Many of them dont know what to do with themselves when out server goes down, hehe.. CS is great man, I just hate all the negativity equated with it.

you are loyal to the community, not the game itself

how is it adversity if it is entertaining you? you may well have liked it less than before, but it still was just a game, and so you must have had fun playing it.

                      how's this for a quote:

or maybe something completely off topic

At the time loads of players were sticking with the previous version of CS, which I prefered. My brother was one of them, he stopped playing after those "old skool servers" closed down. I suppose you could try and argue that I was being "loyal" to the people behind CS (Gooseman, Cliffe, etc.), but that wasn't the way it went down. I wouldn't have felt any special support (or allegiance) to other projects they could have started.

I don't think you need to exclusively play CS in order to be loyal to it, you can be loyal to your country but live in another.

Pablo_m123, you are right that, technically "loyal" may be the wrong word, but what would you replace it with? It has all the right implications, it just hasn't been used enough in this context to become accepted. All the relevent points seem to have been made though, and I am still "loyal" to CS. PLD - Tink

if you could have played normally on a better version, that just makes you an idiot. what you are saying is that those people who continued to play the version they preferred were not being loyal to the game. is that true? well technically yes b/c you can't be loyal to the game in the first place, but they were on the same level as you were.

Here, I'll spell it out for you. They are either not playing, or have joined me and are still "loyal", but if you prefer to see me as an idiot why should I waste my time showing you a point of view you are not aware of?

That post is a continuation of an argument, so I shouldn't have to make the same points over and over again. I also don't see a new point to the rest of the paragraph, everything I written alludes to all you need to answer your questions. Why don't you read it.

You're on your own now kid'o. Nice talking with you - Tink
