Quake 3's gameplay blows goat chunks for fun every night of the week, but adding Quake 3's engine to Counter-Strike would improve Counter-Strike.
Graphics don't make games, but they can sure help to make the game more enjoyable to the eyes.Comment

I think one of the reasons CS is so popular is b/c of the Quake 1/2 engine...yea it may be outdated but nearly every computer out there can run it which allows for alot more users to be able to experience the game...but then again, I could be wrong.Comment

-AK-, I agree honestly. Sure, I can run Quake III on my computer, but not as high res and smoothly as I can run the HL engine. Most of the people I know have far worse systems than my mediocre Athlon1GHz/GF2 combo.
The simple fact is that the hardcore gamers tend to have the better systems, and they tend to be the types that post comments on places like CSN. I would love to see a new graphics engine, but not on CS as it is. If/when CS2/TF2/HL2 come(s) out, I want to see a hugely improved graphics engine. However, I'm not looking for Doom 3 or Unreal 2 quality here, honestly. Make it playable on most medium level systems, and nice on the fast systems, and call it good. CS honestly would not be greater than every other online FPS put together if it had an engine even as advanced as Quake III, and certainly not something as nice as UT2k3, as so many casual gamers would be excluded by their weak hardware.
Anyway, this is about CS:CZ. It's going to be doing what all the rest of us have been doing for a while now to make our CS look better: adding much higher quality models. Mix in some nice looking maps (you have to admit that CS1.4+ maps are graphically much nicer than earlier maps), and you've got a decent looking game that still runs on older computers.
Anyway, have fun discussing a game you won't play for a LONG time in the comments.Comment

All signs point toward a May release date. I really don't think Vivendi Universal has any control over when Valve decides when the project is done and ready for public consumption. It'd be like Activision setting a release date for Doom 3.

i work for software etc (aka gamestop) and according to our release dates CS:CZ is set for June 2nd, 2003. Also on that same date is "Team Fortress On-line" though I don't know what that one is (TF 2? - doubt it).
Also "Half-Life 2" is set for "July" - and that's all it says.
oh yeah and for the release date for Doom 3 we have it pointed at October 10th, 2003.
