There are 2 reasons PCs dominate consoles.

The first reason PCs dominate is just replayability. With mod authors and map creators and just people hacking the damn game, the fun never stops. Like Half-Life or Quake 3, these games have gone way past traditional DM that has come with their retail boxes. If you can't addon to your game then you might as well play consoles.

The other reason PCs are so great is because of the multiplayer features we have become accustomed to. Shit personally I wouldn't play games unless they were multiplayer. When i go Half-Life I got near the end of the game and I was very bored of reloading the same area to figure out some stupid puzzle. So I just said fuck it and I loaded up HL DM. When I first played HL DM i had loads of fun cussing people out and calling people assholes and campers. Now if it was just a bunch of computers running around... there's no interaction or socializing. These things just makes games more fun... which is why i choose the PC.

      Each to their own.

To me, it basically boils down to the difference between sprawled out on a comfy sofa (console), and hunching over a desk in a cramped swivel chair (PC).

Also, the only reason I've seen for people supporting the PC, is the fact that it has online capability. It is this ability to go online that gives PC-users access to the communities and mods available for many games, multiplayer modes, and a vast array of other features.

In this light, yes, the PC is superior to consoles at the moment, but with the advent of online capabilities for consoles (XBox's "Live" feature is already underway)....

Im not taking a side (i love both), but heres how i see it..

PCs cost lots of money to maintain in order to play the latest games as they are meant to be played. Not eveyrone has this (an example is me, CSing on a Celeron 500 (running very unstably due to overclocking to 700), 32 meg TnT2 thats almost burnt out, adn 191 meg of ram). Then there are the games which roughly cost $50-$100 (AU).

Consoles are cheap (relitivly of course) and can play (pretty much) most of the newer games (even though most have some elements taken out (ala Max Payne)).

i got lost near the end cause im fucken tired. Basically it comes down to Personal Prefrence and $.

sotd is a lot better now. the only prob is that there are hardly any sknins any more. wats the point? even if it is better and easier the choice of skins is extremly limited. all the M4A1s are shit now. and there is not a single MP5?!? if one of u just renamed the skins in their zip for us then theres the main complaint solved.

apart from the lack of skins, its good. just put back all the ones that were there before.

Before he moved the info on SOTDs down here into the SatCat, it was up in rizzuh's corner. He stated that bandwidth was becoming a problem, so he's limiting the number of files there to free up more so he can download pr0n onto the server for you socially deprived.

The best you can do is hackneyed romanticism and warped nostalgia?

It had an evolving and fast paced story line that was part of the game. You played from start to finish, no cut scenes, no interruptions, just pure 100% quality action game play.
                            100% except for Xen.
HLDM, you can duke it out with your friends or enemies across the country or living room.
And then you can be completely bored with how poorly balanced it is.
Boom, SDK/TFC hit the net. A popular class based team play total conversion. All of a sudden you've forgotten all about Gordon Freeman, you're capping the flag, defending the command points, sniping the soldiers, and blasting away the engineers.
Along with realizing that TFC was vastly inferior to the original.
But that is most certainly not all. With the SDK out there the community gets the never before scene power to do what they want with the game, and release it free for anyone to play.
Yeah, "never before scene (sic)" unless you count every id FPS before it. You're so full of romantic nostalgia bullshit.
One such person known as Gooseman did just that. Beta after beta Counter-Strike grows to be the most popular online action game, ever. And it's free, from the community, for the community.
From the who to the what now?
Half-Life was released for the PS2, where is it now? Heh, thought so.
You think very little. PS2 HL is dead, just as PC HL would be if Valve weren't able to milk CS dry.
Ok so now we see where community and the internet can be used to dominate the lifespan and enjoyment in what was a mere, but good, action title.
Something which can also be done with console games. At this point, you haven't even ATTEMPTED to flesh out your notion that PCs are "superior" to consoles. I guess it's further up your colon than you expected.
You seem to believe that a game that looks pretty and is interactive takes away from the game play.
"Seem" would suggest that you've observed this, when it's quite obvious that your powers of observation, or even reading comprehension, are less than satisfactory.
Now obviously consoles aren't going to sit back and let the PC get all the power, but the fact is you can't pump out a new console system every 2 years to keep up with the extremely accelerated PC market.
The fact is, they don't HAVE to force consumers to buy their next gen console every 2 years. Most of the proven console dev companies do just fine without having to rely solely on "next gen" superficial graphics to sell games. "Extremely accelerated PC market" my ass. "Extremely expensive and wasteful" is more like it.
The latest and greatest will always be on the PC, at least for some time, and it will help gaming in the ways I explained above. Consoles just don't stand up to what the PC has to offer.
The "latest and greatest"? Bullshit. Metroid Prime coming to PC? Silent Hill? Casltevania? Ico? Z.O.E.2, Eternal Darkness? Nope. For every "big name" game that comes out on the PC, consoles have 5.

All the PC has to offer as far as games go is online play and 1600x1200 resolutions for people like you who seem to believe that anything you can't slap 4x AA on isn't worth playing. Multiplayer is so necessary for PC games because most of them aren't worth playing in single after the first time.
Granted, fighting games and racing games are all well and fun, the PC comes out on top when it comes to actual involvement with the game, and a community behind it. This comment page is proof of that.
Yes, because we all know that fighters and racing games is all that has ever come out for a console. And we all know that fans of a particular console game are absolutely forbidden to form a community around it online.

This comment page is proof that there are plenty of total retards who can't think their way out of a room with 4 open doors in this so-called "community".

"Gee, wow, i can play with someone from across the country who can barely face the right way! Huk, this makes PCs so much better than consoles!"

mouth is another CS flamer like all the others. He uses real words and pre thought out insults to prove his toughness. It's no different then "stfu fgt lollol u r nu". He isn't any more intellectually superior then his fellow classmates in English class. Grasp of the English language is a standard not a skill, it just looks good compared to most people who don't think twice about spell-check when posting on the comment page. An actual mature person can have a conversation without resorting to the petty name calling and ranting that flamers get off too. Dice and I had just that, and I respect him for it. mouth dislikes PC games because he doesn't like the rat race of upgrading hardware and dealing with people on line. And I thought anti social people thrived online? He just needs to get out of his mothers basement, hit a pub (read: alone, this is not the "I'm better then you because I do things outside by computer" argument), and maybe re think his life. If Half-Life isn't proof of PCs superiority to produce content and involvement from the community for the community, then there is nothing I can say that will help my argument for PCs. But what else can I expect from another CS moron?

And mouth, if you like games where all you do is watch a movie for 2 hours (MGS2), watch another movie for 30 hours (FF), and the likes then that is fine. I think linear play is boring and restrictive, and has very little replay value. The reason there are 5 console titles to every PC title is because there has to be. On the console a game is a game, and that is all it is ever going to be. On the PC we get titles like Neverwinter Nights, a semi-linear RPG that has an amazing amount of room for growth. An extremely powerful editor and ~64 player servers allow for some truly unique community driven content. I would like to see the PS2 do that. But hey, you hate every other person in the universe so I suppose that wouldn't be your cup-o-tea. Learn to live and let live mouth, one day someone might actually like you, online or off.
