It is mainly a problem of control for me, MikeJ. Graphics don't mean shit if the gameplay is terrible (Myst, JGR). If you cared that much about graphics, you could point out that that computer monitors have a much better resolution, whereas I would point out that consoles like the Dreamcast had VGA boxes. In which case I would be arguing with myself.

It's not just eye candy. Better graphics and better physics mean a more interactive world. Now some games scream game pad + TV screen as I pointed out earlier, but you can't argue the power of the PC + the list of titles on the way and in development. The PS2 line of games are only capable of so much, and the console will have the same capabilities it had on launch as it will have when the last unit is sold.Comment

I believe in the near future we will see consoles taking the role of a totally self sufficient entertainment system with interfacing capabilities with the PC. And in the far future no real line between consoles and PCs, but rather a self inclusive system that allows for the best of both worlds.
But the argument is here and now, and in my humble opinion, and based on my favored genre of gaming, PCs are superior.Comment

I think we'v overlooked the rather obvious point that game consoles really are computers, albeit lower powered and more specialized. But one could say the same about computers, since it's really games that drive the PC market. Think about it; there's no other reason to buy that new 2.0 tetrahertz AMD-STD eXPlode or whatever if you're just going to surf the net, download porn, and play solitaire.Comment

Obviously the Pc is far superior to the console because it can play better graphics and can hold more information. But console games still have an advantage over PCs, being that they they can be played on larger screens and can have many diffrent add-ons options for them...The question is wether or not you like using a mouse and a keybored, or and controller.
Personally I am proud to say that i am a PC gamer, and i seldom any of the systems.
about the weekly wisdom---if you go to bombsite A, they will be at bombsite B, and vise versa. But you still have to try your hardest to defuse that bomb!

Game consoles really aren\'t lower powered. The XBox isn\'t low powered if you ask me. In additon, it isn\'t games that drive the PC market. I have the odd feeling that there are companies that are business related and have computers. Perhaps even computers acting as servers to deliver content over the interent. You could say that e-commerce is a game, but I don\'t know about that. Nothing\'s wrong with solitare.

Two years from now PC games will probably be rendering 10 times the polygons as a PS2.
Of course they will be. You are insinuating that consoles won't advance in technology at the same time PC's do.
I only like consoles better for sports games, racing games, and fighting games (aka Tekken Tag, the best fighting game ever). Trying to play Half-Life on dreamcast or PS2 would be a nightmare.. the kind where you try to run and you can't, or you try to aim and you can't...Comment

You're right, it has a faster processor than my Pentium II, bless the silicon it's made of.

Companies that are "busniess related" (um, all of them) don't neccessarily need Geforce 4's and AMD XP's to work Microsoft Excel (although they will need more RAM than a CAD program would eat).Perhaps even computers acting as servers to deliver content over the interent. You could say that e-commerce is a game, but I don\'t know about that.
More like a gamble! (rimshot) But you'll notice (you did) that I distinctly said "PC market". Which doesn't include servers. Say what you want about the lack of funds that mos dot-com startups seem to front, but I'm sure they'd sacrifice a frothy frappucino a day to save enough for a web server.Nothing\'s wrong with solitare.
It's amazing what a computer can do these days: shoot virtual people, communicate with people on the other side of the planet, work on cures for cancer. So there's nothing wrong with taking your $1000 machine and playing a card game on it? By yourself? Just because you don't know how to keep score Vegas style?
I weep for our future.Comment
