Maybe I just have a problem with the term sport being used with video games, regardless of the definition. I don't consider NASCAR, golf, bowling, billiards, etc. a sport either. To me, a sport is a game requiring athletic ability as well as skill. Therefore, an eSport should be an electronic representation of those events. Competition is a fair term I believe, but not eSport.



Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these guys that win tournaments aren't complete beasts at what they do, but I don't think the term cyber-athlete is an appropriate term. I mean, if you told a regular person who doesn't play videogames (i.e. most of the adult world) they would probably look at you like you are some kind of fruit.



My 2 cents.

Surely athletic sports are called athletics?

F1 drivers, (because theyd piss over your oval Indy lameness) reuire peak fitness, and even cricket is a psort, even though the majority of hte days spent playing are spent standing around waiting for the three in the middle to do something.



Anyways., sports can be defind as mny thigns, but broadly speaking, the def given earlier covers it.

huh? they retire from their sport to play golf, because it is more difficult than the sport that they played?

i think it is the exact opposite. i think its something to do for 4 hours a day, in the sun, drinking at their leisure, and is easy to do. they also drive 4/5ths of the 3 mile course.[most retirees (of anything) use carts].

playing golf well is difficult, ill grant you that, but that doesn't make it a sport. (somewhat overweight ppl actually could have an advantage in golf). what makes something a sport is questionable, it isnt a sport because it is difficult.

competitive underwater basket weaving is difficult. so are professional curling/shuffleboard/billiards/name your "sport" here.

they have to all be sports to be fair. why not just call them sports. why does it bother anyone? ice hockey and figure skating take around the same amount of "skill". different skills, but the same concept. one is a "sport" one isn't considered one. idk. lets just flame each other some more. lol. =j
