    History of eSports

Some guy, aka xredebility, posted a history of everything that ever happened that had to do with eSports. Sound interesting?
Take a look at sports. Soccer, ice-hockey, whatever sport, they all have a history. Therefore I think it's important that we record the 'major' events happening on the CS scene in case it will once become a sport.
Now if he claimed he did it in one sitting I'd be amazed, but ya know, I have high standards. Anyway, if this hits your g-spot, take a click!

    Wow.

He includes a few facts which I think are pretty mundane such as "Steam is down".... but otherwise, pretty good job.

And I also think the name "History of eSports" should be changed to "History of CS eSports" or something similar. CS isn't the only competitive online game.

          1. Who cares?

          2. CS is not an esport. Nor are professional CS players "cyber-athletes." It is a damn video game. Therefore they are professional video game players. Not any type of athlete. The only esports are Sports games.

I've been banned, stop reporting me.

actually, i only spent about 5-10min every day, just recording events happening on that day ever since 28. November.

Lucius: read again what you said. "CS is not an esport."

eSport = electronic sport = video games and such

i did not say CS was a sport.

And furthermore "who cares?": well, specially the CS community on both sides of the atlantic has expressed great interest on it. At least it's posted on over 10 major sites that I know of so far, and the comments have mostly been "nice" etc :)

and I agree it's a bit biased towards European scene, and specially CS (90%) because it's a bit harder to get info about the other scenes on the news sites that I visit :)

                2. Better tell that to the CPL so they can cancel the $400,000 esport tournament.

eSport implies sport, even if it's electronic. Therefore, not a sport. <low-fives self>. Someone also tell Rizzuh's dumbass to put up the thing I sent him. He is probably gonna wait like two weeks and then claim he found it himself or something.

                      sport (spĂ´rt, sprt)

                      n.

An activity involving skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.

CS on a professional level is a sport. Even if it wasn't, I don't see how its not an eSport when in fact the word itself was created for online games in particular. So basically, CS is a sport and eSport is one of those useless words that someone came up with to make it sound cooler (might as well just used the word 'sport', eh?).

And yes, I do realize the above paragraph is redundant.

                        In any case, gj xredebility.

don't forget that esports aren't soley based online. the biggest (and fairest) competitions take place offline, at a LAN center.

K you admittedly say it's 90% about CS yet it's still titled "History of eSports." Good call.

Listen to this guy, he knows what hes talking about.

Im not saying that it is or isn't a sport, but what really defines a sport? I mean us geeks(dont flame, im joking) need some competition too, and chess(Check csnation archives on chess haha) gets a bit boring some times doesnt it? haha

Nice read though, Too bad it doesn't go back any further in time.
