    Friendly Fire

Over at CSCentral Simon has written an article on the types of players in your run-of-the-mill Friendly Fire-enabled game. Here is a quote that your drug money helped to kill:
What is the big deal with FF on a server? For me, it has always added a level of realism by having consequences for poor targeting or being in the wrong spot at the wrong time. FF makes team communication become more important than usual. Squads of two and three players can properly cover a bombsite with crossfire hiding spots and the approaching enemy squad can advance by a leapfrogging method. One learns not to run immediately behind the guy in front of them as it blocks ones ability to return fire from a forward position.
This man speaks the truth. Friendly fire is on for all CAL matches so I'm getting used to it. Of course I have the reaction time of a sloth on morphine so you should ignore me.

Sloths on morphine are actually quite slow. They have reflexes reportedly equal to that of rizzuh.

Awesome article tbh, I've been playing on an FF server for well over a year now and I also also am in a clan where we scrim very consistently so it helps to be use to FF. the ony thing that pisses me off to no end is when I get shot by a teammate down to 20 HP from 100 and they just look at me, then walk off. I give em a bit of time to apologize, asking them where the courtesy is @, if a round goes by, they might as well expect a few glock bursts to the face, cause thats what they are getting. The person usually replies to "dude i was going to say sorry", and of course we all know this is bullshit.. if you were sorry you would have taken the time to show me instead of running off looking to up your kill count.

Server I play on though, pretty much everyone has "say sorry" bound to a button, and all the regulars are accustomed to it, so we usually dont have to hit the button very often ;P ASY Clan Server (128.2.214.62) is greatest FF server I've played on too, got mod to auto-slay people who TK, after 3 TKs (resets on map change) theres a 24-hour ban.. so far I've only been banned 3 times from this (last time was a pistol round nade throw.. you can guess how ugly that turned out heh)

FF only works with small team based gameplay. Rarely see this on pubs, especially ones with 20+ players. If you have to install a special plugin to moderate FF you have already failed. I played leagues so I have plenty of FF experience, and you don't have to worry about it at all in a matches/scrims because you know where your 4 other team mates are at all times. When you have 10+ team mates to worry about it gets confusing, even with radar.

Thumbs down to FF servers, just an annoyance.

I try to only play on FF servers. I also do not find this a huge deal, as almost every single one has ATAC or comparable enabled to discourage people from TK/TWing constantly.

It is always fun to turn TKs into chickens, slap them silly, or time bomb them. For the ultra fun, set them to timebomb just as the round ends, and they will glow for the rest of the map.

I can't stand playing on non ff servers anymore.

I'm gonna have to agree with MikeJ here, a server with FF is roughly equivalent in my eyes to a server that is "ALL RATS/ALL T3H TIME!!!!111111eleven1111." For some reason oblivious to me, once you are top one stats, your teammates tend to "accidentally" head-shot you with a USP at the beginning of a round.

I lost my thumb in a horrible smelting accident so, Index finger at a 45 degree angle to the bottom right hand corner.

i feel FF should always be on. my server(s) have always had FF on and i ignore servers with FF off. why? if you're into CS for the level of reality it offers i feel you should also be careful of what/who you shoot. afterall, this isn't quake where everything that moves is target.

and yes, my server also has the atac TK plugin, but just to take care of those buttmunches that shoot team mates right after spawning. that really irritates me. "yeah, i was just trying to see if FF was on", altho itt says so in the consgreet, the motd, and the message in the center of your screen when you select a team/skin to play with...

i guess these people just see what they lack in intelligence and make up for it with stupidity.

i dont think ff pubs work. i mean, there is always 1 idiot that will shoot u down to 2 hp, then run away. i generally shoot him back down to 2, he shoots me, i die, then use the plug in to slay him, but it does get relly annoying after a time.

ViNe you need to play on a server with ATAC, ffmon or just a decent admin. FF doesn't work without plugins or an admin of some sort due to the amount of social outcasts that play CS.

What I find funny about people who don't like FF servers is they always moan that they get shot by some idiot on their own team. WTF do you expect to happen on a FF server? If I get hit I just try to think how I could have avoided that. Usually more communication is the answer.

Also good thing about FF servers is it attracts more experienced players. Beginners prefer to stick to FF off.

BTW I usually play on a 32 player FF server and it works perfectly.

reminds me of my last lan, when i threw a nade in de_dust and it bounced off the wall above the crates near the exit to t spawn in the cave-tunnel like thing and instead of going out the exit to the right, it just dropped down behind the crate and killed a mate.
