Current games are going to reflect different score variations than upcoming games, keep that in mind.

Some Doom III engine benchmarks, for reference:
1024x768 - Medium Quality No AA / No Aniso

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra - 104 FPS

          ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB - 77 FPS

          ---

          1280x1024 - Medium Quality 4X AA / 8X Quality Aniso

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra - 38 FPS

          ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB - 29 FPS
Other games are going to give you different scores, but no, those are not fabricated numbers. (Anadtech) I primarily play Half-Life based games, so really GF2 and above are all excellent for my purposes, whether the card comes from ATI or nVIDIA. I'm still happier with nV's driver program, but like I said, ATI is getting better with time.

Hey, I went to the ATI site just before this thing was posted (4 am my time) and like there was some HL2 shit there! that NVIDIA rumor was wrong.
The machines demoing HL2 at E3 were running ATI cards.

Just download the 3.1's probably, as it seems plenty of people have had troubles with every version beyond that. And no, don't download all the drivers in order, heh. :)

Weird, weird, weird! When you press escape with the new ATi 3.4s, you get a long delay before the screen pops up again. Its as if they worked out a fix to the 3.2 problem, rather than removing the problem in the first place...

                    Am i babbling incoherently?

No more posts like this or people are going to get banned! Consider it a subtle tip that perhaps you need a little more outside time. They're just chips.

yeah, thanks for news rizzuh, not that i really care about AA anyway (on my new 17" 1280x1024 lcd, it's probly kinda useless anyway...), never did when i had my old crt either. ;\ oh well, i'll give it a try just for the heck of it now. too bored. so thanks for the news.

just wanted to add that this is what i hate about updating drivers from ATi. :@

first of all, it always resets all your settings (since control display gets reinstalled, i guess), thus going back to 640x480 and messing up my whole desktop. now i have to rearrange all the icons again. ;\

and also, for some reason windows won't detect the max resolution/refresh rate of my lcd monitor anymore. ;/

                              gEEgEE. ;o
