I dunno. I dug the idea of the article, since this kind of thing was always fun on the old CS forums. But, i was kinda disappointed with not seeing a comparison of every weapon in the game, so i'm definitely hoping he decides to continue writing on the subject. The shortness of the article also seemed to damage the "believability" of the information given too, i feel.

      ATTENTION:

More people needed for the purpose of acting like everyone needs to "get a life" for having the slightest interest in anything. Chances of being hired are greatly increased if you are capable of saying this without actually giving any statement as to why. Benefits packages are available for those who meet the above criteria in addition to having little to no experience with the language they've been speaking, reading, and writing with since 3 years of age.

Anyway, what I find amusing is that some people bitch endlessly when a gun doesn't act quite as they think it should in CS, then turn around and watch a single UMP45 spit out hundreds of bullets with no reloads in The Matrix Reloaded" without question. Insert a similar example (from practically any action movie) here.
What's also amusing is those instances are almost always snickered at in a movie, which is exactly contrary to what you just said. Also: what?
The point, in both cases, is about fun over realism.
The point is that The Matrix is set in a fictional world where the laws of physics went right out the fucking window 5 minutes into the first movie, while CS is a game that claims to be based on realism despite having many elements that neither fun nor realistic.

And congratulations for being the only person i've quoted recently who's written more than 5 words without lighting up the spellchecker.

I used the Matrix reference just because it's the last action movie I saw. You could use a "Die Hard" movie for all I care, and notice that a dinky SMG becomes capable of spewing hundreds upon hundreds of rounds without reloading.

Anyway, I don't see how being "based on realism" excludes unrealistic elements. Perhaps the "realism" elements are simply that you use guns that resemble real guns, and shooting people (enough times) results in them dying.

It certainly isn't realistic to have round-based play, the scenarios are not really realistic (with perhaps the mild exception of as_ maps), the weapon buying is unrealistic, the... I could go on and on. No, CS isn't perfect, no, not every aspect of CS makes it either more realistic or more fun. But obviously a lot of the elements in CS are about making the game exactly that: a game, not a tactical excercise.

However, I think it's pretty pointless to continually whine about aspects you don't like (take the random recoil, for instance) just because you don't find them to be realistic. Many people see it as quite fun even in it's unrealistic state. That's just one example of that type of thing, and there's a bunch of various bugs that also play in.

Anyway... I guess we can all just hope for the best in CS2, and see what comes of it, as I really don't expect major things to change in CS at this point (speaking of the game itself, not the addition of a few weapons and such).

First we see it without question and now we notice it. Which is it?

At this point, it's perfectly debatable that a lot of the elements in CS are simply about Goose making thoughtless blunders.

"Many people". Always this majority shit. "Many people" play awp, rats, and fy maps. "Many people" made Britney Spears rich. Your point is fucked if the meat of it uses the "many people" as an example.

The prime argument for realism, as far as i see it, is cohesion: You could have the AK fire out lasers and it might work while being fun, but it's just fucking stupid for a game like CS. "Gameplay" becomes as absurd as John Romero at that point.

The concept of realism for CS is what keeps it from being a shitty model/skin/sound replacement for UT. If core elements of your game (recoil) cease to follow the concept they were BORN from, you've seriously fucked up somewhere.

I see a poll here, do we actually want cs to be more realistic, less realistic, about the same or radically overhauled?

The problem withthe more 'realistic' maps, is that theyre often pretty, and while some of you hate torn, and chateau, they are undeniabley, more realistic than dust aztec maps, so are people crying out for realistic weapons in artificial settings? No imho, people are after a balance between realism and playability, fun or whatever. You can argue that theres no need to stress people about anything till after 1.7 and cs 2, as little will be changed now, or u can say that arguing about what u dont like, etc will add to the development process, and who knows, your idea, your wants , may be fulfilled. I personally am waiting to see the look on peoples faces in cs 2, when u knife them in the bollox. I expect modded animations galore rollin g eyes allsorts, hehehe can imagine hand signals, for team play, rollin eyes, possiilities of the new engine are staggering. IN short, lets look forward rather than back, and support rather than criticise, as they have done a great job, cos we all play it right?

            So you are all right
