    Counter-Strike Weapons...

    and their Real-Life Counterparts.

Those of you who are as enthralled with weapons as I am should find this article particuarly engrossing. The "Real guns vs. Guns in Counter-Strike" article at Boomtown goes into detail about the differences between the weapons in the Counter-Strike arsenal, and their real-life counterparts. Here's an interesting tidbit to grab your attention:
"One of the more controversial subjects you can talk about regarding Counter-Strike is guns. There have been countless discussions of how good and certaintly -- how realistic the different guns are. There can be no doubt to whether the creator of Counter-Strike have studied the different guns and then implemented them in the game -- more or less successful."
Still interested? I was. You can sink your hooks into this juicy article right here. This reading should make for some particuarly interesting discussion in the comments section. Want to voice your opinion, all you gun nuts out there? You know you do. As always, feel free to leave your feedback.

Interesting how every site on the net that describes the AWM says it can carry .338 Lapua Magnum ammo but this guy claims it can't.

In all the Tom Clancy novels I've read, the MP5 and the MP10 have been mentioned quite frequently. The author of this article sums up the MP5 pretty well:
It's just as good as an AK-47. If a person is hit 5-10 times in the chest, he's probably very dead, not caring whether an AK or a MP5 hit him.
The MP5 from the current version of CS sometimes feels too weak to even bother with.

it'd be cool if they went for complete realism in CS2. Just pay more attention to detail, it's not THAT hard. And rag-doll physics in CS would be COOOOOOOOOL as hell. As for the guns, I'd like real-world gunsounds.. that would be really nice. I can't stand the way my M4 sounds right now, unsilenced. I wouldn't know where ot find a nice sound :).

Not a bad article but I was disappointed that he didn't post REAL-WORLD compared to in-game CS gunshots. He should've taken pictures of the REAL counterparts as well as their ammo and put it on there to copmare with the CS models :).

I wish they would just fix the reload on the m4, after seeing how the reload works on the M16 in America's Army, and hearing what this guy said... it's kind of laughable that you can pull a button to reload in CS. as for the fact that the AK is more accurate than it should be, well I think it needs to stay comparable to the M4. Make the MP5 a beast though =D

:) I'm 'this guy'. And MaRLi, that actually did cross my mind. Im considering doing a follow-up on some of the other weapons on a later occasion. Who knows. It might be sooner than later. :)

                    Cool read.

I thought the AK-47 assault rifle held 64 rounds in a magazine though.

I don't know about you guys but i saw some serious grammatical errors. I think this guy's a bit flakey on the english.

I'm glad this guy wrote that article so then maybe it will straighten out some of the nubs of cs-nation thinking that CS is realistic, laf.

When you think about it, CS is unrealistic in almost all aspects excepting the map styles (you get with cs.) I mean, terrorists and what seems to be special forces teams from around the world, battling it out, in a mostly frantic fasion, or stopping a group of terrorists from blowing a bunch of boxes up?

Don't get me wrong, i love CS but only because it's fun and in my opinion the most stratigical game for the PC today.

Oh, come on. This game is not meant to be totally realistic.

"If a person is hit 5-10 times in the chest, he's probably very dead, not caring whether an AK or a MP5 hit him. The result is the same — unfortunately not always in Counter-Strike."

Yeah let's make AK and MP5 do the same damage! 5 shots with the AK means you're dead, and 5 shots with the MP5 means you're dead! Now THAT's what I call balance! Hell, let's just make all the guns do the same damage eh?

thats a fake document made by someone wanting to be cool, look at the spelling errors, MP-5 Navy. One of my own favourite weapons, for example. plus, he said the mp5 in game does 700 rounds per min, how could he test that again? yet, how would he know this? seriously, he just ripped it out of some book made in 1980 and made a cheap comparison

Just the four weapons (MP5, AWP, Colt, and AK.) He doesn't go into too much detail any of those however. If he wanted to compare video game guns to their real life counterparts, he should have compared Rainbow Six: Raven Shield to real life. Now in that relationship there are some interesting oddities, if you go into enough detail, which this author did not.

i suggest you check your own english before criticizing someone else's. and if you were asking how he could figure out how many rounds per minute the mp5 could get (your sentences are pretty messed up), its a simple matter of timing how long it takes to empty 1 clip, dividing 60 (seconds) by that time, and then multiplying that number by 30 (rounds). i just did it and came out to <= 600 rpm.
