    Shock's Shock in Dispute

Update: The match is now being reviewed by CAL admins. Previously, a forfeit win was granted to TEC but apparently CAL is taking its time with this call. The post has been updated to reflect the 'reviewing' status.

Update #2: There are claims that in the latest version of WWCL, cl_bob 0 isn't even blocked. This line, however, appears in the CAL WWCL config: wwclconfig_check "cl_bob" "0.01". It's not clear at this point whether a) the server was even running WWCL, b) cl_bob is not allowed in CAL play, or c) WWCL was intentionally bypassed.

Update #3 @ 10 PM PDT: TEC has confirmed that WWCL was being used on the server. Gouki of TEC expressed doubt that kSpro intentionally bypassed WWCL, asking why someone would "hack WWCL to use one command?"

In last night's final set of CAL-i matches for the regular season, underdogs Shockwave narrowly beat TEC 13-11 (exactly what our very own orion predicted, despite some flames).

That victory is now being reviewed by CAL as one of Shockwave's players, kSpro, uploaded a demo to gotFrag. The demo apparently shows him illegally bypassing WWCL by using cl_bob 0. He went on to say that he has r_drawviewmodel deactivated which is expressly forbidden by the CAL rules.

Shockwave needs this win to get into the playoffs, so they will certainly be appealing to CAL admins to not over-turn or null the match. The question that is taking center stage: Should an entire team be punished for a relatively minor infraction by one of its players? The answer is all-too-important; the results of this match will have a huge bearing on post-season play as last night's gotFrag melee post indicates.

Wonder why he cheated in the first place, and equally why he made a demo of it. Did he suddenly feel bad about it or was someone about to report him?

He just uploaded it to GotFrag for the people to view it. I don't think he would upload a hack demo for the whole world to see especially just after defying all odds to beat TEC.

Then again, I let shockwave use my ventrillo server and I heard them talking about how kSpro saved the team.

I don't know I won't take sides, but all I can say is my prediction was right

that is nonsense. sure competition is competition (read: you dont cheat. ebar... to some extent), but what kspro did was so minimal. most cal players make demos... either to admire him/herself or it could some outrageous fetish. however he bypassed the wwcl and "He went on to say that he has r_drawviewmodel deactivated which is expressly forbidden by the CAL rules.". therefore he broke a rule. i do not comprehend the purpose of punishing the entire team, as its just one inividuals fault. rules are rules.

and this incident reminded me of that certain cubs batter that enjoys mirthfully jumping out of the batters box after hitting a homerun from dominican republic and usually slurs his words who is getting a lot of heat and is rumored to enjoy chardonnay in a hot summmers day with his dog, asos

Why is this guy even running this rubbish in the first place? Just punish him for crap's sake.

How is it "relatively minor"? I agree that the infraction is not that big of a deal compared to no walls or aim assistance, but a rule is a rule. To say that the infraction is minor is beside the point. He knew the rules and that is that. DQ Country.

And the argument that the match should not be overturned is not valid. Every team is supposed to play within the set of rules handed down by CAL. He used settings that would give him an advantage over other players, minor or not. It's very possible... especially with CS being 5v5 that the advantage would give them the edge to win. Therefore, match is overturned.... or I would actual give them a chance to prove themselves again and replay the match when they know that everyone is clean.

uhm he broke a rule, whatever cal has written about what happens if a team violates a rule should stand, period. this isn't really a controversy. CAL has rules, and punishments for breaking those rules. You learn about them when you sign up, if you don't it's your own fault.

Those client variables are to be default in all CAL matches. Period.
Weapon models must be used. The in game variable r_drawviewmodel must be set to 1 (on). Any player caught without gun models may be suspended or have other penalties imposed. Teams caught with players violating these rules may have penalties imposed; up to and including forfeits, suspension or removal from the league.
The important part is in red.

Well just because a serial killer and a jewel thief go through the same courts doesn't mean their crimes are on the same level.

Unless the serial killer and the jewel thief are one in the same, eh? Am I right? HUH!?

Seriously, if you cheat, or even attempt to cheat, the match is a forfeit, and the player that attempted to cheat needs to be severely disciplined, and fined, money, that goes to me, now.

This goes in the "what an idiot" category.

Yes, and oh yes. Cheating is cheating. It's not like he cheated by using a illegal mouse pad (just an example -- no flames), he cheated to help him get an advantage. I hope they get the call right.

Who's going to be the first one to correlate this to Sammy Sosa.

                        edit: Oops.

he got caught with an illegal variable, so he violated the rules. Maybe he wasn't cheating but still, he tweaked his config, he pays the price.

what is cl_bob 0 anyway? and what does r_drawviewmodel do?

That's not an equal comparison as the judicial system is much more complex in the way that the Jewel Thief and Serial Killer are tried by a jury. The human factor.

In this case, the rule is set, the rule is broken, the appropriate actions as set by the rules are taken. No judge, no jury, just the rules.

I think that it should be reviewed. He used it, yeah, but did it affect his performance in any way? Did he play better because of this? I'd like to see evidence of that before they decide to DQ shock.

cl_bob 0 prevents your gun from swaying when you run.

r_drawviewmodel 0 changes whether or not your gun is shown. 0 (off) will display no gun.
