    Poll-ar Ice Caps!

We're on rapid-fire poll mode apparently. I forgot to do it last Saturday, so last week's was messed up from the beginning. That's what summer does to you, kids. Anyhow, my question to you today is "Which gives you the biggest advantage?" I think people really underestimate the power of a good sound card. It's a legal wallhack, if you ask me.

    What's your favorite Counter-Terrorist model?
    SAS33%
    33%
    GIGN28%
    28%
    Seal22%
    22%
    GSG917%
    17%
    total votes: 2704

I failed by voting Arctic two weeks ago, but I was right this time. We all agree that SAS is the best model. Next week I promise I'll do it on time so you're not left with a 3-day poll.

Interesting poll, I agree that good sound cards gives you one of the biggest advantages in the game. If you're thinking about competetive cs play, it's almost a requirement that you have a good sound card.

What about CPU and video card? You don't want 2 fps during a fight!!!!! Sure, mouse and sound is important, but video and cpu IS MUCH MORE important (To me at least)

heres the deal.. cs isnt highly demanding on your computer, even with real nice custom skins so cpu and gfx card, imho arn not the biggest things...

my normal run of the mill mouse WAS fine.. then i got a microsoft net keyboard and it keeps locking up when i try and move around....[

BUT, when all was running nice, my sb aud gamer was when i finaly got good.

it after about a week of learning how to use sound to my advantage, i was getting called a hacker.

I now can shoot through walls and hit guys some times, get into possition around a corner when i hear some one comming, or just use the fact that i know where they are to my advantage in some other way...

sound card is by far THE most important thing in the world of CS

              50,000 watts of funkin...

Anyway. I think that the mouse can give u an advantage with the extra buttons, but i think that its not just any one part that is the best.

The whole package has to be good. Here is my recommended setup for example:

Mouse: 5 button Optical (no brand or model required)

Video Card: Must deliver at least 30 fps on iceworld when u are at a spawn with custom models and there are 10 players on the screen

Sound Card: The sound card can not Pop/Crack/Sizzle/Beep/Urinate one you randomly. It should have 3d sound and u should have those kind of speakers.

CPU: Well, AMD is cheaper and better but im not goin into brands. You should have a CPU around 1 GHz minimum.

LAST OF ALL, RAM: This wasnt a category but I am making it one. You should have enough ram so that you do not lag in "high intensity" situations. I recommend 256 MB at least.

Why don't we just say, 'hey there's a vote for new head of CSNation, why don't all of you people who don't care one way or another vote for ME, THE GREAT PUFFYCLOUD!'

I like my onboard nForce2 sound, my solid Radeon8500, my Athlon XP 2400+, and my logitech mx500 mouse, with such AMAZING DRIVERS that I'd ask them to not quit their day job, if it weren't for the fact that writing drivers IS their day job.

oh, here's an intelligent observation: people who vote for sound cards take the other things for granted. If you have a solid cpu + videocard + mouse, then you're not going to vote for any of those. If all things were even, a soundcard would give you the greatest advantage out of the 4, but if you have a really bad cpu and an Audigy2 Platinum with Klipsch 5.1 speakers (kind of a moot point: you'd have a better cpu if you had a $200 sound card and $350 speakers) then you're going to vote for a cpu. Everyone who votes for whichever is voting for the thing they have the worst of, but all things equal, a soundcard would come out on top.

Firstly, I think we already had one of these discussions when rizzuh posted his opinion in a news post. Secondly, it's an Internet poll. Thirdly, no one listens to me at all.

In the future I'll try not to compromise the integrity of the poll.

i think you need a video card more then a sound card...if you dont get a good video card..you will laggg like a bitch in cs and it will be hard to kill anyone plus with the smokes.

as for sound card...i just turn my speakers reallly loud or use headphones...but most of the time i just keep my volume down

I disagree. My 1GHz runs it at 100 fps with 256 MB RAM and I think that would be why I said MINIMUM, any higher and you are just being excessive. I have another computer which is about twice that and the performance is just as well.

As for the Iceworld reference... It is a simple map and I agree with not playing it, but it does make even some of the better computers slow down when you have all the guns lying on the ground and > 5 people on your screen.. Maybe not your UBER Machine.. but Mine dips down to 45 fps which i still dont even notice. (Seeing as the human eye can only see at about 27 anyway)

Yes, lockhart you are tripping about that 2GHz comment. The new AMD Athlon XP 3200 is only 2.2GHz and the XP processors don't break 2GHz until the 2600's and up, I think. Besides, I have an old AMD Athlon Thunderbird at 1.2GHz and there are hardly any games I can't play. Anyway, I have a GF4 Ti 4800SE (basically 4400 with AGP 8X) and 768mb of RAM.

Oh, and screw that mouse rizzuh. I'll take my 5 button Microshaft Intellimouse over any mouse, on any computer, any day of the year in CS lol. Just can't beat 5 buttons on a mouse, but its a shame that some other games only take advantage of 3 or 4 buttons.

sound card is a legal wallhack,

a precise mouse (with a good mousepad) is a legal aimbot.

and youre all saying '1ghz cpu etc is minimum', why not give a cpu speed based on MIPS rather than MHz? since mips is what cpu speed is measured in. lol kids.

shouldnt you group cpu and gfx card together, since they both make up fast fps.

instead of 'a good sound card' shouldnt u put 'EAX/3d audio-capable soundcard'.
