Yes, lockhart you are tripping about that 2GHz comment. The new AMD Athlon XP 3200 is only 2.2GHz and the XP processors don't break 2GHz until the 2600's and up, I think.
XP2400+ is 2.01GHz (well mine is anyway).

Oh, and screw that mouse rizzuh. I'll take my 5 button Microshaft Intellimouse over any mouse, on any computer, any day of the year in CS lol. Just can't beat 5 buttons on a mouse, but its a shame that some other games only take advantage of 3 or 4 buttons.
You got that right :o) Luckily, intellipoint drivers support per-game customizable 4th and 5th mouse buttons for obstinate games like Raven Shield, that don't recognise them normally.

Another canidate for an answer for this poll: faster internet.
Yeah, shouldn't a better/faster internet connection be the main advantage considering that most people have computers capable of playing CS well. That is unless your a poor soul trying to play cs on a pre-windows 98 class computer.

CPU for sure. I have an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ (1.72 GHz I believe), and CS runs extremely smoother than my old Celeron 533 MHz. Actually, I'd say video card and CPU go hand in hand. I have a Radeon 9000 Pro myself, and I can run pretty much every game out there on the highest settings possible without having problems. Mice are also fairly important, but all you really need is an optical one. I use headphones when I play CS, so all I really need is a basic soundcard.

              with a geforce4 ti4200 on a pentium 866mhz i would lag.

              i now have a 3.06ghz pentium4 same card, i never go below 100fps ever.

i voted CPU but mouse is also pretty damn important, HL doesn't need no fucking video card above like a geforce2 u see what im saying dawg.

i have to say CPU because my cousin has a radeon 9000 64meg and 384sdram and because his cpu is p2 450mhz he gets horrible fps like 5-30fps.

My mouse rox... unfortunatly, my mousemat sucks so I can't use that to my advantage.

Videocard? CPU? Nah. But I almost never lag!

Soundcard? Yeah, probably. Wonder why I didn't vote for soundcard.

IT'S ACTUAL PROOF OF THE CPU BEING THE MAJOR INFLUENCE ON HOW SMOOTH CS RUNS.

                      Silly you.

I remember now why I voted for mouse and not soundcard. I almost always listen to music while playing CS, so I really don't hear the footsteps so well.

Without sound, it would be practically impossible to play right. Sound helps you out so much!

"Net Connection" or "Distance from server" should be on that list. I know when I'm on a server and I'm bouncing between 50-70 latency, it's the guy on cable who probably lives a few blocks from the server and is between 15-25 latency that always seems to kill me. He comes around the corner and sees me, targets me, and fires at me in the time it takes me to see him, this is the point where I start swearing a lot. I'm not complaining because I know when I'm on a server in my city I've got that kinda ping, but since we are talking legal ways to improve your CS performance that aren't practicing then these two should be on the list.

that is why you do not play on laggy ass servers...

A mouse obviously.. playing with a keyboard = lose.
