because part of CS 1.6 is the new GUI and console changes. unless they were included the steam and download versions would be incompatible.

the whole point of beta testing is to pin point exact problems and sources of error. it just seems to me that adding steam to the equation when it wont even be incorporated into the final release, would only complicate matters.
edit: actually I take that back, I suppose steam would be ideal for beta testing. its a lot better than distributing a ton of small fixes and downloads via the conventional means. DUH.

yea 1.4 steam was stable, and i liked it. but that was because it was private. ps Jet Li i don't think anyone can get in to steam...
