I've only been playing since 1.0. I only got half life, and a friend gave me the updates on a disc, i played TFC all the time, and had a few goes of cs and thought it was too hard (probally since i got well beaten the first few trys). I liked TFC better, then my friends were all playing cs so i gave it a another chance. I was then addicted, staying up very late, and taking turns with family members. 1.1 came out soon after, and thunder was my fav map. i still don't understand why they took it out, it was a great map. Only one thing was wrong with it, and that was the never ending cliff side. I was alot more angry about thunder being took out than for the jumping change.

Some changes people don't even realise because we are so used to it is the voice, and the first person mode. It would be wierd to play without first person again.

The para when i was doing beta testing for 1.4 was really good, i remember everyone wanted it then, they must have changed it before the final release.

I feel like a n00b now coming to CS in 1.3. Wait I AM a n00b. Now that we have established that let me say I would disagree that cs_siege is the worst map. as_tundra has got to be the most least played, worst map that still ships in CS. I would love to see different maps come with cs as there are many out there that can outperform most of the default ones.

My next map was the aforementioned cs_siege. I've always had a soft spot for this map, ever since that time, during beta 2, that I went 29-1 AWPing people who ran around the cliff corner from the crate just outside the garage.

... and by cheats I mean, there is also a chronology of cheaters that tells the other side of the story... like the Blow equivalent to America in the 70s and 80s.

My sarcasm meter isn't showing any sarcasm aside from the fact that me saying I have a meter that detects sarcasm is sarcastic in itself and that would read as "slightly sarcastic" on the sarcastic meter if I did infact have one. What?
Oh, a SARCASM METER. What a REALLY useful device.

I hope CS2 will have improved vehicle controls and better graphics. It might become the Halo of PCs! I feel that the vehicles are a fun part of CS when you aren't in a serious match, which is most of the time, and want to just have some fun. Most people do enjoy driving a jeep around doing tricks in cs_jeeprally2!!!

Note: Yea, its too bad they degraded the para...I liked to pretend i was rambo or something...(dont rofl, i was 10!!)but well, u got the M4 now, and i own with that.

Nope, wasn't cheating, it was just a slaughterhouse. Beta 2.1 I believe. There werent any cheats back then with which you could cheat.

Something you all should realize is that there were no "awesome players" back then. The game hadn't been around long enough and the style of play was too new. It was basically a bunch of guys messing around. Enjoying themselves, yes, but there were no star players. Everyone was pretty equally matched - which meant that sometimes people could fall for the same tactics over and over again.

Plus, the reload time on the AWP was a lot less, as I remember.

Having played since beta 1...the beginning. I can say that beta 5.2 was the best version of the game for sheer skill/gameplay. Later versions slowed the game down but added better models/features/weapons.

The big differences that weren't pointed out was that 5.2 had no blackout on the sniper rifle and there was no recoil on the run. You could run faster with the knife and actually chase down people when they reloaded and kill them. Also a huge change was the recoil. I used to P90 snipe on assault from ct roof to the bridge in beta 4. The mp5 was just as lethal in 5.2 and I could kill anyone with it. Also you could reload and switch weapons faster.

Another huge difference was the sprite cross-hair instead of a dynamic moving guesstimate the middle one. People could customize there cross-hair just like on Aug and Sig zoomed cross-hair now.

Also the difference in skill between newbies and vets stuck out big time. This is really why the game changed. The gap in skill shined because people were moving around corners faster and the newbies couldn't keep up with their cross-hair. So they cried to the creators and they slowed everything down and add recoil so the newbies had a chance. Even goose changed the game to suit his own abilities in game.

Instead of attack, rush and slaughter the whole team it turned into hide, camp and use bitch tactics to get a kill. Made it a lot better for the newbies but the veterans hated it. I know that the community had a large falling out after 5.2 where many veterans left and swore never to play again. Of course that happens each new update but this was the biggest.

5.2 had accurate aim and speed. People wanna put realism over gameplay. Well if I wanted realism I'll go enlist. I don't wanna pause after I jump because some idiot found a bug in jumping. Fix the bug don't penalize and slow down gameplay even more.

This game is challenging for the veterans now because the newbies actually have a chance. If they speed game back up they will separate them out again because newbies can't keep up. It comes down to reflexes plus hand-eye coordination. Some have it, some don't.

You can't accommodate everyone but if you do pander to the newbie then you sell more copies. This is why CS got newbified(is that a word?).

I always wonder what ever happened to all the vets that got up and went outside when they disagreed with the changes and swore to never play again. I wonder how many stayed true to their word.

Beta 5.2 was fun, but a joke. The p90 was way too powerful and was often used in lieu of rifles. It was not uncommon to see an entire team running around with p90s.

I'm glad it changed, and I say good riddance to all those who can't adapt. That was the time of the big "defection" to Hostile Intent, well over two years ago.

Hostile Intent STILL have not released their first beta.

The P90 was a joke in beta 4 not beta 5.2. They nerfed the P90 in 5.2 but it didn't matter because the MP5/AWP/DEAGLE combo still owned.

I quite clearly remember it being very unbalanced in beta 5 as well.

Are you sure? You may be right, but I seem to remember reaching P90 insanity during the beta 5.2 days.

At any rate, beta 5.2 was way too "arcadey." I'm not saying it wasn't fun - it was - but the slower speeds and more tactical gameplay that followed in later betas were a definite improvement.
