i don't really like buying things online. i just don't trust the Internet with my money. So i would prefer to by a game physically than digitally.
Well, if I'm buying something like say, a guitar, something I can physically touch when I receive it, I'm ok with that. If it's a game that I'm not getting any CDs for, I might as well go buy it at the store. That, and the source of the places I'm buying from come into play too.

I too prefer having something tangible. At least I *KNOW* as long as I have the CD I don't have to worry about a download server being down or the time it takes to download a big ass game, ect.

That poll is rather biased too, obviously. "I like having a room full of boxes", like its a bad thing to have a tangible copy of a game.

yeah most ppl would rather own the actual thing, but at least this option is available to the ppl who want to do it.

I like the box and CD art, plus a few years later after I've mastered the games I usually read the manual and laugh at how they make some weapons/items to be more useful than they actually are ingame.. Speaking of boxart though, anyone ever figure out why they took the crossbow out of Goldeneye? I played the game through hoping to get my hands on that beauty before finally going on various websites and reading they took it out :\

I don't remember a crossboy in goldeneye... I remember it in Perfect Dark and Timesplitters (2) though.

The crossbow in TS2 owns... particually when you set the bolt on fire. Though the dual P90s and assault shotgun can't be beaten Shame they got rid of the M16 from TS1 though (though TS2 does have the 'S47soviet', i.e. an AK-47 with a grenade launcher. And having the dual version is fairly good). And the assault shotgun in TS2 isn't nearly as good as it was in TS1. Oh well......

On the flip side, what if you step on the CD and break it? Or the manual becomes tattered and useless? Or the game isn't even in production anymore and you can't find it in any stores?

Steam solves all of these problems.

I would still prefer a normal DVD/CD and box and manual, but I'll admit that one day my opinion will probably change as Steam becomes more and more widespread.

Once again the poll is screwed by the lack of real options. It's either absolute yes or lame answers.

Fot me it's a wait and see. Honestly I like have my own box and CD for the game. Just as a fail safe.

1: always make back up CD's

2: You can read it off the Internet (or photocopy it if your that desperate)

3: Download it off the Internet then burn it onto a cd, or if you know someone that has it borrow it, or just buy it if you find it somewhere.

                      thats what i do.

                        1. CD burners

                        2. most (almost all) games have the manual on the cd

i will always buy my games physically. that will never change no matter how widespread steam becomes. i love my beloved boxes and manuals.

In response to rizzuh, perhaps they should make it where you can download the game from Steam too if you bought a tangible copy of it. Require the CD key for verification or something.

Just a thought. Might make Steam more useful.

The thing that attracts me to steam is security. It's a more controlled environment and less prone to piracy and hacking. Take popular MMORPGs like everquest and the like. There is virtually no cheating or piracy going on in these types of games, and they would be even more prone to hacks due to the fact that you can sell items and characters for real cash on ebay, and in CS you only cheat for a high score or fame in CAL.

Just something to keep in mind.
