me thinks "thechosen" has caught teh funny disease. quick run everyone.. :)
Let us hope Vivendi likes what they see (and plays with their horribly greesy, nacho cheese covered and Mountain Dew crusted fingers whilst laughing hysterically like madmen drooling left and right as millions upon millions of us still wait anxiously and also fall victim to being witnesses of certain bulges appearing in Vivendi's pants).

There has always been release Candidates.
It seems disconcerting how many pre release stages there are in software that are being exposed to the consumer. We used to have only 'beta', but now you can get beta, Preview Release, and Release Candidate versions of software. It's enough to make one's head spin.
This almost seems like a 'to get everyone off our backs about this thing, we're announcing something that no one normally announces.' Then again, the Half-Life 2 story has been undoubtedly the most interesting and drama filled road to completion - I'd really like to read a non-publisher affiliated post-mortem on it (very unlikely though.) Still, this 'RC' nonsense belongs in-house and not in the news.
HL-1 made it gold withen 2 days after they sent a RC to the publisher.
Valve has very highstandards to bugs ect... With the CS:S beta they have had a chance to test alot of things with the public. Serious things such as the engine ect...
I think HL2 will make it in ONE release candidate. If so, we should be seeing HL2 on store shelves most likly by the end of the month at MAX.
I think they will hit Sep 30th as a cruel joke :PComment

Test the game, copy the master numerous times to forfill all the pre-orders and in store buys THEN deliver them all?

I doubt vivendi will reject the games
I mean even if it's filled with bugs or suggestions that haven't been actually incorporated into the game, that's what steam is for, to add content and fix bugs after having sold a bazillion copies. They did it with CZ, they'll probably do it with HL2 and CS:S
I guess it only helps to get the game in our hands faster :|Comment

Thats why publishers have masses of machinery. It is very possible to reach the deadline, but unlikey that they will. I reckon early october.

Some things are possible for some game companies, but clearly impossible for Valve... when i say "some things" i mean ONE RELEASE DATE!!!!!!!!!
