CS: Source and HL: Source RC Shipped

As previously reported, Gabe Newell revealed that the Half-Life 2 release candidate was shipped to Vivendi Universal. As if things couldn't get any better, HalfLife2.net has confirmed word from Mr. Newell himself that both the Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life: Source release candidates have been shipped off to VU as well.
UPDATE: I have now also confirmed with Gabe Newell that the Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life: Source release candidates have also been sent to Vivendi.
In other news, what in the world am I doing up at this unsettling hour you might ask? Why, to bring you exciting coverage like this of course. Enough with the mindless drivel, head on over to the forum post and read it yourself.

Let us hope Vivendi likes what they see (and plays with their horribly greesy, nacho cheese covered and Mountain Dew crusted fingers whilst laughing hysterically like madmen drooling left and right as millions upon millions of us still wait anxiously and also fall victim to being witnesses of certain bulges appearing in Vivendi's pants).

Fantastic - coming soon - cant wait to dish out $50 to $80 for HL2 plus all the sources it comes with and such. It's a good deal, but the wait has been mind numbing.

It seems disconcerting how many pre release stages there are in software that are being exposed to the consumer. We used to have only 'beta', but now you can get beta, Preview Release, and Release Candidate versions of software. It's enough to make one's head spin.

This almost seems like a 'to get everyone off our backs about this thing, we're announcing something that no one normally announces.' Then again, the Half-Life 2 story has been undoubtedly the most interesting and drama filled road to completion - I'd really like to read a non-publisher affiliated post-mortem on it (very unlikely though.) Still, this 'RC' nonsense belongs in-house and not in the news.

What he said above, it's not even gold yet.

I think we're looking at an October release. September 30th seems kind of quick, but I suppose very possible. We'll see. :)

what is the meaning of going gold anyway? never got the meaning of it..

and what's the roll of VU in al this?

Is the game ready? then release it on Steam allready...

i can almost imagine the excuses: VU didn't liked our RC so we gotta redo the whole game from scratch. Sorry guys, cya next year...

When the game goes "Gold", it sort of means that the game is ready on cd and they are about to ship it to manufacturers. This means in about a week or two after half-life 2 going "gold" then we may be able to get our hands on half-life 2. And I think that VU distributes the game to stores and stuff.

As funny as that sounds, it could happen but I don't think it will. Well they wouldn't start the game from scratch, but it could delay half-life 2 another few weeks.

If that was to happen, madness would occur.
