  • Internet Overreaction Forces Ubisoft to Remove Weird Assassin's Creed NPC

Thanks to a recent, poorly researched video by Polygon concerning the Assassin's Creed Ezio Collection, Ubisoft was forced to remove a weird looking NPC from appearing in a cutscene.

The NPC in question has the potential to show up in a cutscene in Sequence 1, Memory 1 of the remastered Assassin's Creed II from the collection. The problem here is that the NPCs are randomized, just as they were in the game's original release. This means that any number of NPCs can show up in the game's cutscenes. So while it's true that the weird looking NPC could show up, there is no guarantee that he would. This oversight caused Polygon and many other outlets to freak out and say how the remastered games were visually downgraded compared to the original release as a result.

The poor, ugly NPC, and Ubisoft via proxy, became the focus of many an Internet joke.

The same scene in the original release of AC2 showing an entirely different NPC that was used as the basis for the incorrect comparison and subsequent overreaction

Today, Ubisoft released patch version 1.02 for the Ezio Collection that removes the possibility of this NPC from showing up in that cutscene.
FIXED - A weird NPC face appears in Assassin's Creed 2 Sequence 1, Memory 1.

There you have it, Internet, no more creepy NPC for you.
