  • Dota 2 International Kicked Off Today with $20 Million Main Event

The Dota 2 International for 2016 is well underway this week. The main event starts today and culminates in the final match on Saturday. Teams are competing for a slice of the record setting prize pool that the community helped to fund to over $20 million.
With a record-setting, community funded prize purse of over $20 million, the sixth annual International Dota 2 Championships begins today at Seattle's Key Arena.

The International's Main Event features 16 of the world's top teams battling for a spot in Saturday's final match.

Those unable to attend in person can tune in via many international broadcasts, on traditional screens and via the Dota VR Theater. A host of local venues are again hosting pubstomp broadcast events as well. For a guide to viewing, match times, and more, head over to http://www.dota2.com/international/overview/

The International was first held in Cologne, Germany during the 2011 Gamescom with 16 of the best Dota 2 teams in the world competing for a grand prize of $1 million.

In 2013 the prize pool was bolstered beyond Valve's contribution by Dota 2 player participation in the Interactive Compendium, driving the total prize pool to over $2.8 million, up from $1.6 million.
