  • Disney Ending Infinity Game Line, Shutting Down Avalanche Software

Disney announced that they are effectively pulling out of the video game publishing business. They are discontinuing its Infinity video game franchise and are shutting down Avalanche Software. This means that nearly 300 people are now out of a job.

Jimmy Pitaro, Disney's chairman of consumer products and interactive media, said that they will be transitioning "exclusively to a licensing model." He added, "this was a difficult decision that we did not take lightly given the quality of Disney Infinity and its many passionate fans."

Disney is expected to take a $147 million charge to offset various costs associated with this move. Some of these factors include inventory write-down and employee severance.

According to further statements made by John Blackburn, senior VP and general manager with Disney Infinity, there are still two more retail releases that will be released.

We wish nothing but the best for all of those employees that are affected by this move and the closure of Avalanche Software.
