The latest beta for Dirty Bomb went live. The game, developed by Splash Damage (Brink), will be a free to play fast-paced FPS upon release. However, this beta is currently invite only or you can plunk down $20 (USD) to gain instant access to the beta.
The Merc Starter Pack provides you with instant access to the beta along with some additional bonuses.

Q. Is Dirty Bomb going to be pay-to-win?
A. Nope! Dirty Bomb will be free-to-win, meaning that all gameplay affecting content will be obtainable without spending a penny. There will, however, be options to purchase items through the Steam Wallet to enhance your experience. For example, while we’ll have two free Mercs at all times, and a free rotation of additional Mercs, some Mercs also will be available to purchase with Credits (earned) or currency (paid).
Players also can purchase Cases. Equipment Cases, which can include all Standard Loadout Cards of all rarities, can be "bought" with Credits or obtained as Drops, and more Cases may be added as time goes on.

A. Dirty Bomb is free-to-play and, more importantly, free-to-win. We’ve always believed that multiplayer battles should be won through superior skill and team work, and not the amount of money spent.
However, for the remainder of the Closed Beta, we’ll be allowing players to obtain access through Starter Packs, all items within purchasable through Credits as well. See the Starter Pack page for full details.
