Grand Theft Auto V Sales Make a Record Breaking $800 Million in First Day

Take-Two Interactive has just announced that Grand Theft Auto V from Rockstar Games has already surpassed $800 million in sales in the very first day and it's not even out in Japan or Brazil yet.
Launched on September 17 for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the title has already received widespread critical acclaim and achieved first day sell-through of more than $800 million worldwide, excluding the upcoming launch in Japan and Brazil, according to Company estimates.

"All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto V. Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry's new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. "Beginning at midnight on Monday, consumers around the world gathered in anticipation to be among the first to experience the evolution of this remarkable series. In North America alone, more than 8,300 stores opened their doors at midnight to welcome fans whose loyalty and enthusiasm were rewarded with what The New York Times called 'the most immersive spectacle in interactive entertainment'. We are incredibly proud of Rockstar Games' creative achievement and could not be more pleased with the success of this launch."

And to think that some people found this analyst's prediction of $1 billion within the first month to be a foolish prediction.

And by some people, that would be me. Okay so $800 million down, $200 million to go with 30 days to go (including weekends and any statutory holidays between now and Oct 17th). Should be interesting to follow. I can't tell if Mr. Sebastian is only counting North American sales, or worldwide sales though.

And I will buy it again when it's out for PC ... which they should be doing now since they said they'll "see about that" when the game breaks even ... lol

I am actually disappointed in the ARMA 3 release because we only got more or less half a game. I am glad I didn't pay $60 for it or I would be pissed. And I know they are releasing the Sp missions in October but still.....

I'm quite embarrassed to admit that I would play something like that... Though I want a damn Sandbox FPS that has air vehicles as well as ground vehicles but with the convenience of purchase that saints row or GTA has. It would be cool if BF2 could be modded to something like that because I like its heli controls.

Though I still love me some STALKER, don't get me wrong.
