Sony Pulls Grand Theft Auto V Pre-Load Following Leak, Rockstar Issues Statement

If you're fortunate enough to not know that a huge amount of spoilers for Grand Theft Auto V had leaked online these past few days, consider yourself one of the lucky ones. Spoilers were as far reaching as some people discovering what the end of the game entails and ruining it for others all thanks to a deep scouring of the digital pre-order download of the game on the European PlayStation Network.

Since then, Sony has pulled these files and prevented the game from being pre-loaded prior to the game's launch but the damage has already been done. Sony has issued a public apology to Rockstar and the fans of Grand Theft Auto for enabling people to spoil the fun for others. Rockstar Games issued their own statement expressing their disappointment of the leaks.

We’re pleased to confirm that Grand Theft Auto V has officially gone gold and we’re now preparing the game for release on September 17th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Unfortunately, as many of you may already know, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTAV assets leading to leaked information and media from the game appearing online. As you can imagine, we are deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in advance of the game's launch. GTAV represents years of hard work by many people across the world, and we all couldn't be more excited to finally share it with you properly this September 17th.

While we are sometimes fast and loose with dishing out some spoilers, we will not tolerate anybody willingly spoiling the end of the game or the story for Grand Theft Auto V here. Consider this your only warning on the matter.

Also, it's really sad how we do have to hide from the information age so things like that are not ruined. I guess with so much connection now its pretty much how it is.

Used to be just blabbermouths ruined endings, now its anyone with a facebook/twitter/reddit page.

While this game has a worldwide release as an exception, I think we're finally getting a taste of how gamers in Europe and Australia feel, when they've been forced to dodge the internet from spoilers for years, from North American spoilers for other games that don't arrive to those two regions until much later.
