Friendly Reminder About the Summer Games Done Quick 2013 Marathon - Speed Runners Raising Money for Charity

Just a friendly reminder that the Summer Games Done Quick 2013 (SGDQ2013) charity marathon is still underway! The event wraps up in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, so there is still a lot of content left to view.

The group of speed runners from Speed Runs Live and Speed Demos Archives have already raised over $181,000 towards the Doctors Without Borders charity.
Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) delivers emergency medical care to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, natural disaster, or exclusion from health care in more than 65 countries. An independent international humanitarian organization, MSF unites direct medical care with a commitment to bearing witness to the plight of the people it assists.

This is quite the jump from the first notice we posted about this on Thursday when the event started. At that point they were just past the $2,600 mark.

Right now, the group is running through Super Mario 64. There is still more Mario to come as well as Dark Souls and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess among others.

You can view the full schedule of upcoming games or you can hit up the event home page to offer up your donations. All money donated goes directly towards the Doctors Without Borders charity, so yes, these guys are all doing this out of the kindness of their hearts and for the love of gaming. Well, the love of gaming really, really fast.

An embeded stream can be found below, but if you want to donate, you need to hit up the event's homepage.

I like how they announce any difficult tricks they will do ahead of time so the room gets all tensed up. If the trick succeeds, the speedrunner saves precious time and the crowd applauds, but if the player fails, you will hear the disappointment. It reminds me of watching stuntdevils, pool trick shots, or Guiness World Record attempts.

Also nice of them to allow donators to leave a comment for them to read aloud during the stream. And apparently they're popular enough to at one point be the top most viewed channel (as in they have more viewers than League of Legends). Good stuff.

They've regularly been the top Twitch channel. The only times they haven't been are during peak League times, which seems to be late afternoon into the evening.

And it's nice they read the comments off. But it's happened a few times so far where they've gotten so many donations in a span of time where they haven't been able to read some off that they had to skip reading a bunch of messages. Mine was one of them back during Doom 64 but, oh well! At least my donation went towards what I wanted it to anyway.

Heheh, that ever so dangerously increasing "backlog" that keeps piling up whenever a runner requests "serious time." Here's hoping you win one of the prize draws.

Edit: And since you have an audience here, would you care to share what your comment is right here?
