On a personal note: I never knew Ryan Davis. I never met him. But hearing this news on Monday really hit hard. Very hard.

I've now spent over an hour trying to figure out how to phrase any of this. It's honestly hard to describe. The content created by Giant Bomb has been a part of my life for the past few years with the weekly Bombcast hosted by Ryan being at the center of it. His passion and knowledge about the topics of the week or moment was matched only by his unique style of humor.

It's difficult not to be sad over the passing of someone you admired for their work and outlook on life, someone who managed to make you laugh more times than you can possibly count. I'm going to miss hearing him every week on the Podcast. I'm going to miss him as host for the regular specials and interviews, the lengthy E3 live shows, their games of the year specials, his various Quick Looks (especially the Kinect ones), even the Giant Bomb mailbag videos, the I Love Monday videos, and countless other weekly shows.

The content he hosted helped me find the humor and joy during some very difficult times in my life. And it helped with the not so difficult times when I just had a couple of hours I wanted to fly by with quality material.

I thought it was weird how hard this news hit me until I saw just how many others out there felt the same. The comments on Giant Bomb about his passing number in the thousands and continue to grow. Ryan Davis was the third most trending topic worldwide on Monday after the news broke. Countless gaming sites from all over the world reported on this throughout Monday and Tuesday. Stories of his passing even hit a number of non-gaming focused news sites including Hollywood Life, Examiner, and more.

It would be a fool's errand to deny the impact he had.

A close friend that most have never even met in person was taken too soon. Ryan Davis was just 34 when he passed away on July 3.

I hope there are a lot of people dropping a word or two to his wife. It really hurts to know they were married less than a week before it happened, so I can't possibly fanthom how she feels right now.
