Nintendo Again Upsets Their Fans as they Block Smash Bros. From Evo 2013 Live Stream (Update: Nintendo Changes Their Minds)

In another move that seems to indicate Nintendo is either out of touch with the modern world or they really hate their fans (maybe both?), the company has officially blocked the live broadcast of Super Smash Bros. Melee from the upcoming Evo 2013 tournament.

Nintendo dished out the bad news to Shoryuken, a competitive fighting site that plays host to the Evo 2013 tournament. As such, a mix of Persona 4 Arena and King of Fighters 13 will be broadcast instead.

This move by the big N comes months after they blocked all YouTube videos, including Let's Play videos from monetizing their content if they included Nintendo products. They said that move was done to "ensure Nintendo content is shared across social media channels in an appropriate and safe way."

It seems painfully clear that Nintendo doesn't have a clue as to how things work in 2013. If anything, you would think they would want Super Smash Bros. to be promoted given that they're coming out with not one but two new SSB titles later this year.

Update: An update provided by Shoryuken says that Nintendo has changed their minds and is allowing the Super Smash Bros. Melee stream to proceed for Evo 2013!
"We will be restoring the original stream and tournament schedules," Cannon wrote on Shoryuken. "Obviously this is a huge [relief] for all of us here and we're thrilled that the world will get to see the best Smash players fight it out this weekend. Thanks to everyone online who supported both Evo and Smash."

Well that's certainly some good news there.

Sad for EVO 2013, but now I'm even more worried about the development of APEX 2014. This could throw a wrench in their plans to increase exposure if their competitions from Nintendo games are forced to be kept private (4/10 games they stream are from Nintendo, and their Smash Bros. competitions are the main appeal).

Also hurts to know fans who aren't attending the event donated to charity to get Smash Bros. Melee into EVO, only to find out they can't watch it online. At least the money itself wasn't wasted, but half of the reward sure was.
