Microsoft's Don Mattrick Defends the $500 Price of the XBone

In speaking with Bloomberg, the head of Microsoft's Xbox division, Don Mattrick, defended the $500 price tag on the Xbox One. He says that Microsoft is "over-delivering on value." Well, I'm sure the full quote will be just as amazing as that snippet.

"It's a lower number than some of the analysts had forecasted," Mattrick said. "We're over-delivering value against other choices, I think, consumers can get. Any modern product these days, you look at it [and] $499 isn't a ridiculous price point. We're delivering thousands of dollars of value to people, so I think that they're going to love it when they use it."

Thousands of dollars worth of value! ... Unless you live outside of the United States where most of those services are useless, or you live on a sub.

Mattrick specifically makes note of the services included with Twitch streaming, Skype, and SmartGlass, all of which are free in the first place.

Hey, at least he mentions Halo 5 instead of just a generic "Halo" name for the next entry in the franchise. You can watch it all at Bloomberg TV.

You can't really remove it from the internet. You can't disconnect the Kinect (HA! Kinect = connect = cannot disconnect). You can't play old games on it. You can't easily share your games. You can't buy used games from just anyone. You have to be within a specific region of the world. You CAN play blu-ray disks now.

How about a PlayStation 4 ($399) paired with a Google TV box ($98)? That totals to $497 with $2 to spare on a Big Gulp drink from 7-Eleven. I know I skipped the PlayStation Camera, but... Is it really that important to have it?

Or you could swap out the PS4 for a Wii U ($349 Deluxe Model) for a total of $447 with $52 to spare on... Well... A game.
