3D Realms Suing Gearbox For $2 Million in Unpaid Royalties for Duke Nukem Forever

Gearbox Software is challenging claims made by 3D Realms that it still owes the studio over $2 million in unpaid royalties. Apogee Software (3D Realms) says that Gearbox owes them this sum of cash due to unpaid royalties and "advance payments after Gearbox bought rights related" to Duke Nukem Forever.

This lawsuit stems from the 2010 purchase of the franchise from Apogee (3D Realms). Gearbox argues that the terms of the sale allowed it to deduct the $2.9 million in dept it acquired from 3D Realms before the studio would be entitled to any payments.

Truly, Duke Nukem Forever is the gift that keeps on giving (people like me some fresh news to post about it long after it's lost its relevancy).

That is not what the story is about.

Also, just for discussion, if the story was about getting money back for a bad game, I would say no to that as well. Anyone thinking DNF was going to be a perfect awesome blockbuster after all it went through really fooled themselves.

DNF you buy to own a piece of history or nostalgia. Do some bubble gum chewing

Prolly spent days on that game lol I'm more let down knowing there will prolly never be another duke game ever made again

Let's face it the head guy at Gearbox Loves Duke like many other gamers. He did ole Apogee a favor by buying the license and resurrecting an ancient studio's game. DNF wasn't a blockbuster we all knew that going in. It's like showing up to a pot luck dinner and expecting Morton's Steakhouse quality.

If i were Gearbox's legal consul I would tell them to queue up the Duke Soundbites and Rick Roll 3D Realms everytime they call.

On another note, I do have to say that DNF did have the best Digital Boobs I have seen in a current game though.
"We're all very different people. We're not Watusi. We're not Spartans. We're Americans, with a capital 'A', huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We're the underdog. We're mutts! Here's proof: his nose is cold! But there's no animal that's more faithful, that's more loyal, more loveable than the mutt." -John Winger (Bill Murray) Stripes
