The Forest is an Open World Survival Title That Blends Minecraft with I Am Legend

Fresh on Steam Greenlight and coming out swinging with a new trailer from pre-alpha gameplay is a new game that is sure to delight fans of Minecraft and survival-horror.

The game is The Forest and it is aiming for a late 2013 release on the PC. It's being billed as an open world survival-horror title that will let you build structures, craft weapons, and try your best to survive. Did I mention there are mutants yet?

Did I also fail to mention there will be Oculus Rift support? And that you can chop down trees, start fires, scavenge for food, plant seeds to grow food, build shelter, decorate your shelter, lay traps, craft weapons and tools, fight or flee? How does an underground network of caves strike you? Or that it would take "months" of very dedicated chopping to chop down every tree in the game. Oh... I didn't? Well did I also fail to mention that some of those mutants also apparently hold their own beliefs, have families, and morals, and appear almost human?

Needless to say, you may want to offer your support for the game over on Steam Greenlight. A simple "Yes" vote is all that's needed if the game tickles your fancy.

When I saw the trailer, I wasn't thinking of this as Minecraft and I Am Legend. I saw this as more like Minecraft that takes place in the land of... Well... People who are trying to go to the store...

Looks damn good. I do hope there is some sort of online mode for it

I actually hope there isn't. Really takes away from the point (survival horror) of the game if you're banding together with other players to build things and try surviving the mutants.

I was thinking of some sort of optional coop. I hardly can play singleplayer games anymore, I don't know why but it feels like wasting time.
