EA Lays off Nearly 10 Percent of Entire Workforce

There are multiple reports today that Electronic Arts has laid off nearly 10% of its entire workforce. Though unconfirmed, the reports were enough for EA to release a brief statement on the matter, without actually confirming nor denying the actual number of employees that were laid off.
In recent weeks, EA has aligned all elements of its organizational structure behind priorities in new technologies and mobile. This has led to some difficult decisions to reduce the workforce in some locations. We are extremely grateful for the contributions made by each of our employees – those that are leaving EA will be missed by their colleagues and friends.

These are hard but essential changes as we focus on delivering great games and showing players around the world why to spend their time with us.

This comes less than a day after reports that EA was shuttering its EA Partners program. The Partners program was used by EA to publish titles from studios outside of EA's ownership including the Orange Box from Valve, and titles from Epic Games, Insomniac, and Respawn and included games such as Bulletstorm and Fuse.

This also follows the resignation of EA's former CEO, John Riccitiello and the near complete shut down of EA Montreal earlier this year. In addition, EA has also laid off a number of employees from its mobile division in recent months.

This comes in the same month that EA was voted the Worst Company in America by a Consumerist poll.

As of last year, there were over 9,200 employees working at EA.

Maybe this is because of their GLBTDKJGBNDS stance?
