The Future of Doom 4 Remains Uncertain

In development since at least 2007 when it was first announced, Doom 4 has been stuck in limbo for quite some time. Development on the game was "rebooted" at least once in these past 6 years and some reports are saying that if Id doesn't deliver on Doom 4 this year, ZeniMax might go so far as to shut down the studio.

So why the need for at least one reboot of the game's development? Apparently, Doom 4 started off as some sort of Call of Duty type game in space. It included cinematic, scripted sequences but was ultimately scrapped after the poor reception given to Rage two years ago. As such, Rage 2 development was canned and the teams were marged to focus solely on Doom 4.

Come 2012, ZeniMax wanted Doom 4 to be as big as Skyrim but the departure of many top talent from Id has put a bit of a damper on things yet again. So for now, Doom 4 still exists, as does Id. Next year at this time? Well, anything seems to be possible.

I really hope that ID doesn't close down. If anything I really enjoy seeing a lot of the technology that comes from this company and I've always enjoy their games even if they are not main stream liked. Again ID has been around for so many years compared to many other companies that after 1 or two bad games just get killed off it would seriously suck to see ID close down .
