Nvidia Aware of Tomb Raider Issues - Working on Updated Drivers

Nvidia unfortunately did not get a hold of the final code for Tomb Raider on the PC until the game was already released. As such, many Nvidia users have been running into a variety of issues both with performance and with graphical oddities.

A spokesperson for Nvidia took to the forums to say that the company is aware of the issues and is working to get fixes out as quickly as they can.
We are aware of major performance and stability issues with GeForce GPUs running Tomb Raider with maximum settings. Unfortunately, NVIDIA didn’t receive final code until this past weekend which substantially decreased stability, image quality and performance over a build we were previously provided. We are working closely with Crystal Dynamics to address and resolve all game issues as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, we would like to apologize to GeForce users that are not able to have a great experience playing Tomb Raider, as they have come to expect with all of their favorite PC games.

One thing that may help many Nvidia users, at least with their performance, is disabling the TressFX hair effects. I noticed that having this enabled would absolutely destroy my framerate in the game, but it would otherwise run fine with just that feature disabled. Others who have fun into graphical issues found that disabling tessellation alleviated many of their issues.

Despite having a much closer relationship with AMD (which is an unexpected first for Crystal Dynamics), I've seen Twitch streamers also experience massive frame rate benefits when they turned off the same two features you mentioned (the streamers can see it, not the viewers who are stuck at 24 fps of course). Apparently some AMD hardware will lightly (I repeat, LIGHTLY, so about 25-30 fps) choke if you want pretty hair (that clips through the neck on occasion) and bumpy rocks, though nowhere near as bad as on NVidia hardware who had the shaft due to the increased favor to AMD. Honestly, with those two features off the game still isn't ugly.

Anyways, thanks for the workaround suggestion. It should work for everyone.

I've yet to see tessellation have a real effect on video game graphics, all it did in Deus Ex was cause graphics glitches and it seems to do the same here.

I was planning on buying SimCity but with all the recent stuff I had to pass.

A contact of mine managed to get some TR codes from the AMD promo and sold me one for 25. The game is AMAZING, I thought it was going to be similar to Uncharted (which took stuff from TR) but even though they had similarities they are somewhat different.

I've been playing with Tesselation off (crashes) and TressFX off (huge hit on FPS) but still, the game looks really good.

Really one of my favorites of 2013 so far.
