Report: Xbox Won't Play Used Games Says Eidos Co-founder

Want to know why we don't call these "rumors" any more? Because "report" sounds so much more official even when it's the same potential level of BS that a rumor is.

The latest is courtesy of MCV India who has it on record that Eidos Co-founder, Ian Livingston, claiming the next Xbox will not play used games.
“With the next Xbox, you supposedly have to have an internet connection, and the discs are watermarked, whereby once played on one console it won’t play on another. So I think the generation after that will be digital-only.”

Perhaps Microsoft didn't get the memo that Sony will allow used games to be played on the PlayStation 4. I have to be honest here, if one platform blocks used game sales, that console may as well just commit digital seppuku.

Seems like Microsoft is aiming to please developers/publishers at the cost of pissing off consumers/GameStop. I don't know... If the exclusive (or natively designed) titles are games consumers can not live without, then Microsoft may have a chance because developers/publishers for the next Xbox can avoid lost sales, while continuing to skip the efforts of being adaptive in this dynamic industry. This may appeal to developers/publishers and sway them to sign up to more exclusive titles for Microsoft.

Seems like xbox is relying on their #1 status and "innovation" to keep people on their console. Doesnt seem like a smart move to me either. The only way it could work is all the exclusive Xbox only titles that people are willing to pay full price for anyway.

If that does to be the case then I will not be getting a Xbox.

Unless the xbox comes really above the ps4 in terms of hardware but has a lower or similar price.
