Take-Two to Continue WWE Franchise from Bankrupt THQ

The acquisition of THQ properties is still apparently going as it was revealed today that Take-Two will take over the development of future WWE games.

Take-Two's acquisition of the license will further lessen the financial burden on THQ thanks to this move.

“By working together to transition development of WWE games going forward the parties have minimized the harm to WWE and Yuke’s, which have, in turn, agreed to substantial reductions of their claims” against THQ, lawyers for the company said in court papers. The lawyers said without the agreement, WWE and Yuke’s claims “would certainly exceed $30 million and might exceed $60 million.”

This new arrangement will allow the WWE and Yuke Co. to enter new agreements with Take-Two for the future of the series. The company is expected to hire THQ employees that have worked on recent entries in the WWE series. This does not eliminate all of the financial obligations that THQ had with WWE and Yuke but it does significantly reduce the amount owed to each.

I'm a little disturbed that this acquisition makes it look like the WWE franchise has more potential than the Darksiders/Red Faction series.
