Check Out These New DayZ Standalone Screenshots and Information

The DayZ developer blog has pipped up once again to share a bit on the improvements that the team has made to the game engine specifically for the standalone version of DayZ.

The blog details some of the improvements being made to the game's lighting and materials systems, volumetric clouds, better server architecture, changes to the game's inventory system, and more.
One of our Lead Artists, Mario Kurty, has been working with some of the ArmA3 artists to ensure that DayZ Standalone has the best visuals possible. The result is pretty striking when combined with some of the other improvements we have made in the engine. These improvements make the world really come to life, improving the visuals overall. A comparison screenshot is included and demonstrates the effect of this.

To those wondering, DayZ standalone will utilize Steam for server browsing instead of Gamespy as was the case for Arma 2. Feel free to read more on the current status of DayZ standalone over at the DayZ developer blog.

I'm hoping the new server architechture will, as claimed, address the cheating issues the ArmA mod currently suffers from. The graphics and inventory changes are nice and all, but it doesn't feel as important to me as anti-cheating and overall game stability.

That's an unfortunate comparison, just looks like they turned down the brightness and enabled dynamic shadows.
Assuming this is still on the Arma 2 engine, i hope they spent more time optimizing than doing things like, i don't know, adding volumetric clouds to a zombie game (assuming they arn't also adding planes in which case that would make more sense).

DayZ standalone is more atmospheric than Arma 2 and does look a bit better. Just... trust me on this. You're seemingly hoping for huge graphical leaps here while still maintaining playable framerates, that isn't going to happen. Period.
