Merry Christmas - Post Your Haul Here

Merry Christmas, everyone! None of that weak "Happy Holidays" from us. No sir!

Hope everyone had/is having/will have a good Christmas. Feel free to post some of your new goodies below!

I do have a brief update here. I had wanted to get the TGN Game of the Year 2012 stuff up this week. The problem is, my Internet has been less than stellar. Today alone my router has disconnected about 40 times that I am aware of: about 30 times on its own and about 10 manual restarts just to try and get a decent ping for 15 minutes at a time.

And when it is up, this is what I have to deal with, and have had to deal with now for over two weeks. Special shout out to Verizon who failed to fix this nor get me a new router prior to everyone of their support staff leaving for vacation. Extra special shout out for telling me on three separate occasions to "monitor the situation", for three days in a row with zero change.

As such, I can neither re-download some of the games selected in the top 10 in order to grab footage, nor can I upload with any reliability. Thus, that means no YouTube uploads for the top 10, at least for now.

So, either I wait until my net isn't garbage and then get the GOTY stuff up then, or I do text only for the top 10, or I just scrap it all entirely and just give you a quick bullet list of what I selected.

I'd say take the vacation and wait until 2013 to make the video. A list would spoil the results, and since Verizon is leaving you with sporadic spikes of lag (1000+ ms on several instances is not something that needs to be "monitored," damn stall tactics), you may as well leave us to spend time and actually enjoy Christmas and the New Year. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you in 2013 if there's no further posts for this year.

Our router was acting very funny last week, dropping connection, being slow, etc., and then it eventually flat-out died. We have a second one though, so it wasn't a big deal. Then I remembered I left the second router in my dorm room, which I can't get back to until January 5th. We had to buy a brand new router because we can't live with a single ethernet port for three weeks >:|

The Christmas haul has been good though. Amazon accidentally sent me $10 in video game credit because a game I never bought apparently dropped in price right after I supposedly bought it. Whatever. I won a $50 Steam credit randomly, just in time for the sale.

So I guess for Christmas I've got the Humble Bundle (Legend of Grimrock is my favorite game from that, it's pretty fun), Chivalry (very fun game BTW), The Witcher 2 (also very fun, I'm liking it more than the ES games), Oblivion, SR3, Fifa 13, and AC3. Still have over $30 left in Steam to spend before the sale is over. And come Jan 1st I can get $5 off a bunch of different games on Amazon.

Update on the Net issue. It actually didn't completely suck balls today! Problem is, it's a bit too little, too late since I know this won't last. Verizon's DNS is also so jacked up that I couldn't even get to http://live.xbox.com until I switched off of the default DNS servers for Verizon and used Google's own open DNS servers.

I'm also still pinging no less than 1100ms to eight different hops on a trace route to www.google.com! In fact, I can't even get to Imgur just to upload this damn image! There we go, five minutes later. Oh, it's not even uploading. It's stalled. So now I get to refresh and try and load it again. Another attempt. This time it's a CTRL+F5.

Screw it, I'll upload it here. See, I can access some sites just fine. TGN? Usually, it's no problem. But even then, it still hits 1100ms+ response times at certain hops in Pittsburgh, DC, and Atlanta.

So now I'm simply thinking of giving the bird to Verizon and going with Time Warner for Internet and phone in addition to the TV cable we have already. The sad thing is, the packages I'm looking at are cheaper than Verizon + TW Cable per month, and it's faster (at least twice as fast even at 15mbps) than what we have with Verizon now.

I've never had a company piss me off more with subpar support that it has caused me to seek out alternative companies for similar services before now.

                Anyway, Christmas haul includes:
-2x pair of super comfortable lounging pants (one of which has football play doodles on it, like this but erratic and in black and white)

                - 1 Carolina Panthers hoodie/jacket

                - Boxers (sorry ladies, not silk ones this time)

                - Beard and hair trimmer since my old one stopped working about two months ago and I look like a hobo

                - Halo 4

                - 12 months of Xbox Live Gold (haven't had Gold for about half of the year now)

                - 1x 1600 MS point card

                - 6x 800 MS point cards (my sister individually wrapped each one... highly annoying to open)

                - 1x $50 Amazon gift card from my brother and sister in law

I got a little facecloth folded into the shape of a dog, a Calender of Cats for 2013 and a pair of Earbud headphones from Target.

Yeah, family being out of work made us have a shoestring budget christmas, with $11 to spend on the other two members of our family that we are living with.

Well, portugal isn't doing so well now with all the Troika and shit, so what I got was a fortunate table full of food at christmas day and some brand new shoes! I am still expecting NS2 to get cheaper on steam, or at least for the last day of the sale, to get it for myself with the money I've been saving from college.

jimykx: Natural Selection 2 is on sale as a daily deal today. I honestly don't expect it to go cheaper than this during the rest of the sale.

Verizon has now "upgraded" me to a slower Internet package than what I had before. ... I'm going to have a brain aneurism because of them. They'll have to be called yet again tomorrow to fix this.
