GAME Australia Goes Into Administration, Denies Customers Refunds on Diablo III

The Australian gaming retailer, GAME, has just gone into administration. Currently under the voluntary administration of PricewaterhouseCoopers, GAME is once again facing some dire times ahead.

However, as a result of this, the retailer has issued a text message to anybody who had pre-ordered Diablo III from any of their Australian stores.

"Due to the appointment of an administrator to our business this morning, it is with regret that I inform you all that our stores will not be receiving any stock of diablo 3 (sic). Because of this, we regrettably will be unable to fulfill any pre-orders. Also, we will be unable to refund any deposits paid towards a pre-order of diablo 3. If you need any more info, please email customerrelations@game.com.au"

Australian law says that any company is allowed to not issue refunds for any reason provided. Customers may be refunded in time, but they are at the bottom of a very long list of creditors that need to be repaid first.

Perhaps if you pre-ordered using a credit card, you may have just one action to take here. That action is to contact your credit card company and try to issue a charge back for the amount you paid for your pre-order. There is, however, no guarantee that this will actually work.

Wow. They can take your money, not give you the game, and not have to give a refund? Glad I don't live in Australia. o.o

My brothers friend used to work there (actually, we met him while he was working there). GameAU used to be really good, but after a while it just started going downhill really fast and really badly. Part of the reason why he quit I think.

Though he is going to love this news...

One of the reasons this has happened is because they inflate the prices on already overpriced games. Why on earth would anybody shop with them?
