Must Go Faster: Tribes: Ascend Launches Next Month

Coming out of beta and going full speed ahead with a final release, Tribes: Ascend is slated to release on April 12th. To add a bit of humor to the launch, the team at Hi-Rez Studios made the announcement by way of a humorous parody trailer.

Tribes: Ascend is a fast-paced multi-player first person shooter with jetpacks, skiing, vehicles, classes, and customizable weapon unlocks and upgrades.

In this parody video, one player attempts to grab the enemy flag while moving slowly along the ground (aka a "Llama grab"). The results, while predictable, are no less tragic.

Friends Don't Let Friends Llama. Gotta Go Fast.

Even though the launch is in April, you can join up and play already in the open beta. It is a F2P game supported by micro-transactions.

I can go pass a trillion... I didn't hear about half-life & counter strike until 2001. In the 90's i didn't care about pc games, in early 2000 still didn't care. Also didn't have a ps2.

defy487385: Damn... I feel bad about how much you've missed out from lack of caring. Looks like this trailer isn't for you at all. The video actually contained a crapload of references that only those who played any of the three previous games would understand (for me it's Starsiege: Tribes). For example, [VSAF] is more than just an acronym. It's what you'll be using a lot in CTF.

jimykx: I laughed when I glanced at the YouTube comments and noticed how some people were making accusations, while being completely oblivious to the words "parody" and "island."

I have the beta to tribes. Its a pretty fun shooter. I just think that the big guys have to much hp.

Just installed Starsiege Tribes, it's free, seems revolutionary for 1998.

I appreciate the open-mind attitude defy487385. Do keep in mind that although skiing originated in this game, it's not a feature (originally an exploit in the way momentum works). It's a vital skill to learn (unless you want to be a cannon-fodder llama), but it's easier to pull off in subsequent games since there was enough demand to make it into a feature.

Been playing this game for a while now and let me say for a free game its fucking awesome. So awesome to the point that i actually spent money on it!

Its a mixture of UT with an almost Enemy Territory type feel. The added Skiing mechanic makes for some awesome calculated firefights. Really enjoying it so far.
