Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Arrives This Summer, Cross-Platform Play is Out

Good news, bad news time! The good news is that a number of media outlets are reporting that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be released this Summer*! Even better is the fact that VG247 has a few new screenshots from a map believed to be called de_lake.

Now, as for that bad news I mentioned. It seems as though, at least according to Electric Playground, that cross-platform play will no longer be a feature of CS:GO. The reason provided by EP is that Valve "wants to be able to update the PC version more frequently than the other systems, which makes cross-platform multiplayer impossible."

We have an email in to Valve to confirm any of this information and we will update if we receive word back. Global Offensive is slated to be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC platforms.

I'm not surprised the cross-platform game is out. It doesn't make sense to pit PC players against console players in a twitch based shooter - that is ridiculously unfair.

Yes but you can use mouse and keyboard on the PS3, UT was the only game that utilised this

Ok so following the VALVe Time pattern, I... Am surprised to see it is coming out this year after all! Huh... I actually know when to expect it if the pattern remains this consistent (right down to a range between two months). Weird now that I can actually figure out when it comes out. And yes, I'm intentionally being vague to avoid ruining the consistency. I wonder how much this game will cost? I also wonder how unlikely it is for owners of Counter-Strike Source to get a discou... Never mind. Everyone has the game, which makes discounts rather stupid actually.

If you are in the beta/watching the news update lately they are pushing new stuff almost weekly if not every 4 days almost now. They just pushed like 4+ news guns in this last update some more major tweaks and I'm pretty sure we're going to get another rotation of the map coming soon, I think I've been hearing rumored de_nuke or something.

Really wish i'd had a chance to be in the beta, i'm currently playing BF3 and tbh as much as i love it i'm still looking for a game that captures those awe inspiring moments that CS brought all those years ago

True, but I don't know if that's how frequent their internal updates are for any game they develop (versus public updates), so for all we know this is how they normally do things anyways. Only this time with more public feedback and a lot less guessing as to what to tweak or how to reproduce bugs. That's why I ignored that factor when making my own prediction as to when the game will really end its beta and head to retail. That said, I was rather pleasantly surprised at how short the wait will be if VALVe Time is being consistent. Even better if VALVe Time merges with its estimated deadlines. To be fair, I shouldn't have mentioned that I can guess the range of months while not actually saying what it could be, due to superstition. Needless to say, I inadvertently wasted people's time on that useless banter.

I wonder if this is also because the so called "steam box" is coming to fruition... And they are trying to prove a point why closed development is hurtful to consumers...
