I'm referring to casual gamers, who are definitely the majority. Most of my friends don't even know what Caspian is, so I doubt they are influenced by the hype. The fact is, many of them downloading the beta to see what BF is like, having never played a BF game before (I had to explain to some of them what BF is), and they just find a buggy clone of CoD.

Are casual gamers that casual now? To know no difference between the two or what each has to offer?

In my experience, yes. They basically just buy whatever their friends buy.

Have to agree with Anarchy on this one, many of my friends who are casual gamers AND Hardcore FPS players didnt know what Caspian was, 4 of them have now cancelled their pre-orders and another has stopped his computer upgrade.

In the long run this will hurt DICE imo.

            Its a well played move.

And dont tell me you are cancelling your order or know a friend that is, because I heard that for MW2 and we all know what happened there:

They'd be hard pressed to not take notice of how many people are upset about Rush on Metro. I've lost count of how many people who have stated that they have cancelled their pre-orders because of this and will either wait months down the road for it to go cheaper or just not bother at all.

I've yet to see a single person who has played only Rush on Metro going "oh yes, this completely sold the game for me!" Not a one.

The funny thing is, during the Alpha a lot of people thought it would be OK with a few tweaks and bug-fixes.
And then we see it again in the Beta, and most people are looking confused and saying "What happened?"

[MyIS]Zips: Sorry but I gotta be the one to say, I was sold on the game on Metro. But that was during the Alpha, because I saw the game my self, and was decently impressed with all those little options that we'll have access to. Flashlights we had seen in gameplay videos, but the laser sight was a total surprise to me, and at first I thought it was just like Left 4 dead, and would just kind of point at stuff, that was until I got shined in the eyes with one and it went all fuzzy red.

Metro isn't the map they should have gone with again, another map, maybe not all out as caspian border, but yes with some vehicles at least would make sense from a PR prespective. Conquest Metro, even if it has to be 32 players. I get that.

However if this is a beta test more for their back end, which they feel they need to test then why can't gamers get that, why do we always act like the worst audience, even when given the opportunity to participate in the creation of the art we enjoy?

Why are people saying this is call of duty when even the people that didn't get to test out Caspian border, got to see the trailer a LONG time ago, and now there are hours of footage of that map.

I honestly don't think we're going to get beta's for games outside of MMO's where the audience understand a bit more that BETA even a bit before release isn't the full package, and you are privilaged to take part, and participate in making the game better.

Yes we want to test vehicles I get that too, but instead of being spoiled and bringing all this negitivity forward, why not be polite, and ask nicely? And accept no for a answer, we have the highest form of technology and we act like some one is robbing us when it's not perfect.

Re: Caspian Border Servers are No More

I wil be quite frank: The open Beta is a lie.
Its an excuse they use to release buggy demos, and it has been so for a while.

Even the closed betas are a joke. There is no list of known bugs, no way to search the forums and no way to upload screenshots or movies showing the bugs.

The beta is a demo, it is what they have sold to thousands of preorders and MoH victims, and it is what their game is going to be judged on.
I have no sympathy for them in that regard, they have worked hard to bring themselves in that position. PC games has been non-returnable for years due to their registration schemes, there are no "real" demos and the major game reviewers are useless and semi-corrupted.

Too much crap is being sold these days trough fancy graphic and massive advertising campaigns. So we are make our decision based on the demo. EA may think they can use "Open Beta" as a excuse if it fails, but nobody is buying that.

So no more Betas you say? Well then I guess I wont be buying their games anymore, unless they start releasing proper demos.

Re: Caspian Border Servers are No More

I dont even think the game will be finished, too many bugs, feels far more like a alpha and only 50%done.

Some of the bugs are not minor either and they are core engine bugs, like the prone glitches(going thru the ground) and the caspain border bug with jeeps and water.

I just dont see how its going to be 100% better in 28 days

Ive also had many mouse issues and frankly i dont like this web engine thingy,it feels cheap.

Has anyone noticed that the game has no menu music also?.No theme music or intro.

i was sold since the first rumors of BF3 surfaced the net. As a die hard BF veteran and fan i do not doubt that this is indeed the true successor to BF2. I find the beta to be disturbing at times as i keep disconnecting from servers but i figure it is alright as its just a beta. three weeks and a few days left till i get my hands on my copy.

Re: Caspian Border Servers are No More

After reading the rest of the comments, it may not be impossible that Metro did hurt BF3, but Im afraid I still do not believe that people are rushing out cancelling their orders.

Who here has cancelled based on the beta? Only on the beta? Not on the cost, not on because you want a different pre-order bonus, not because of a better price elsewhere, not because the beta showed you your machine cannot run it, but flat out cancelled and are not going to buy because of what you saw how BF3 turned out as a game in the beta.

As others have pointed out there has been a lot of information on larger maps and vehicles and that this is a rush map and I still feel that DICE did a marketing trick with the Caspian border leaks to keep the hype up and to take the worry out of Metro. Why go that route and not just go ahead and have two maps for the beta? I dont know, I think that was kinda stupid myself. Have two maps to show something to the CoD fans and one for the BF fans. That would have been a strategy among strategies, but I am sure some brainiac has it all figured out (thats sarcasm by the way).

And then here I go with my wizard hat and crystal ball:

BF3 is going to have bugs and issues with servers and crashes on release. Anyone who thinks that everything is going to be perfect with all bugs fixed and with no connection problems is insane and should go back to single player games.

I said the same thing on the alpha survey (and another thing...there isn't even a survey or anything similar for the "beta"), but when I said with a few tweaks, I meant serious tweaks. All they changed was the position of the first two M-COMS, added some more cover around both, added more cover around M-COM B in the 2nd stage, and stuck a bus for cover by the last M-COM. I wanted them to add more flanking routes down the sides. I'm okay with the first stage, but the second stage is terrible. It needs some side tunnels.

Did someone tried the game on Xbox/PS3? The map is far less chaotic and there's less chokepoints with 24 players (plus maybe the fact it's harder to aim).

i am still content on buying the game, its a fact that many games when released will have bugs. they get fixed after a patch or a series of patches, for every game released there are patches, really this does not bother me much, i had probs in BC2 and whining like a bitch i found the prob and eliminated it. all in all, EA is getting my money and support. I did the same with KAOS and Tripwire, both companies that try make games for the community and in my opinion passed and they both get my money as well as i own all their titles.
