Re: Modern Warfare 3 to Have Dedicated Servers
Just as long as all the servers don't host the smallest map 24/7 with stupid crouch rules. That is what ruined BO for me.

Yes, I guess it's good for the 2-3 CoD guys whom decided to not switch for BF3. More seriously it's nice, no PC FPS should be released without dedicated servers.Comment

Re: Modern Warfare 3 to Have Dedicated Servers
why can't i edit my own post?!?! anyways i will just continue with the reasoning: i think they started making those rules such as "only crouching" and "only knifing" or "only pistols with 1 bullet" and all those crazy rules and modes, because they are starting to get tired of the same thing. i just dont understand how can they keep on to the same game and just not change. I mean it is comming from both the community (crouch-only/knife only etc... servers) and from the own developers: (new gamemodes such as the one in the chamber thing etc...). It's a forced inducement of the game contantly feeling the same and the gameplay beeing the same with very little varietyComment

Re: Modern Warfare 3 to Have Dedicated Servers
Complain when there are no dedicated server, complain when there are. As far as I'm aware during E3 fourzerotwo said they were working on a way to have dedi servers for those that wanted to play on them and then matchmaking for everyone else. So leave us Hard Core Tac Crouch guys on our little corner of the internet and we will leave you hard core l337 guys in yours (CS1.6, yuck).Comment

Re: Modern Warfare 3 to Have Dedicated Servers
Dont be so critical Ranger. A lot of hate was spread because of what happened years ago. Mending the wounds wont be done in one announcement. You have to admit that when you compare all the platforms, PC seems to fall short. Well, you dont have to admit that, but I can see it and you know how I try to be unbiased, though I may fail at times.Originally posted by RangerXMLComplain when there are no dedicated server, complain when there are. Most the posts are a pretty good response and BC2 also has the rule servers.

Re: Modern Warfare 3 to Have Dedicated Servers
I think the reason I'm being so harsh is because they are pretty much all picking on my preferred gaming servers, the whole reason I want dedicated servers and admins (to kick those not following the rules out). During the free weekend we just made all our servers DLC only, because they weren't included in for the freebies, it cut back on the guys who would log on run and bunny hop until banned, then just create a new account and repeat. Remember folks, people pay good money to have their own servers where they can enforce their own rule set, a rule set that a surprisingly large number of players actually like and follow.Comment

It's refreshing to see Call of Duty finally re-introduce dedicated servers that are available to the public. This is what I meant when I said Battlefield: Bad Company 2 lacks publically accessible dedicated servers. Those who want to have small games (4 friends for example) do not have to pay money to have access to making their own private servers. Great news for PC gamers, but bad news for server vendors. I wonder what the thoughts of TGN's staff are on this matter? While I can see server vendors offering quality for the price (paying for powerful server with software pre-installed and tech support), I imagine sales can't be as high as Battlefield: Bad Company 2, given customers now have a choice when making their own games. Then again, I suppose it wasn't a problem for Counter-Strike. Hope TGN will do a contest now that there are no surprises to potentially postpone it.Comment

Re: Modern Warfare 3 to Have Dedicated Servers
Yeah, I understand. A lot of people dont relize that on CoD, tactical realism servers were very common practice and was used as a way to bring the game away from the run-n-gun style that CoD has developed over the years.Originally posted by RangerXMLI think the reason I'm being so harsh is because they are pretty much all picking on my preferred gaming servers, the whole reason I want dedicated servers and admins (to kick those not following the rules out). For years Battlefield had the Rules of Engagement that was enforced by EA which stated that you could not make any rules that prevented someone from using any kit, weapon, or feature of the game. The most you could do is make a rule to not attack uncaps. Then when BC2 came out, there pretty much wasnt any RoE and we see MANY servers banning for being a sniper, for using the CG, for using the 40mm, for being above rank 30. Its pretty bad.
So, when you have someone that knows Battlefield back to 1942 and drop them into CoD back to 4, it seems stupid to not allow running because soldiers run and you have to run.
Im kinda stuck in the middle on all these ideas. As a former admin on a number of servers I enforced the rules and tried to make things fun for everyone and got the normal complaints. Im also a firm beliver, however, that if you cannot turn off a feature on a server through administration tools, such as kits or weapons, then it should be fair game. I also believe camping is a fair tactic, as annoying as it is.
I also enjoyed the tactical realism servers that had the mods that actually turned running off. Ive always been in too many servers that tried to do it and everyone is running around.

Re: Modern Warfare 3 to Have Dedicated Servers
I have more fun with BO on Xbox just because they don't have dedicated servers. I can pick what match type I want and play a full map rotation with no stupid rules.

Re: Modern Warfare 3 to Have Dedicated Servers
That was the one thing I liked about IW.Net. I couldnt be banned and no one could enforce any rules that prevent gameplay.
Of course, thats also a downside.
