Capcom Cancels Mega Man Legends 3

Slated to be an exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS, Capcom has officially pulled the plug on Mega Man Legends 3. The Mega Man Legends 3 Project apparently didn't mean the needed "criteria" to continue production and it was scrapped, much to the anger of those fans anxiously awaiting a conclusion to the story that started on the PS1 back in 1998.

From the outset the MML3 Project was intended to give gamers across the world insight and input into the development process. Part of this process includes an assessment of whether the title will go into full production, and is based on a number of criteria with input from different sectors of the company.

Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game. Additionally, updates of the Mega Man Legends Developer Room will cease as of today, though the North American Developer Room and its forums will remain open indefinitely.

We can only express our deepest apologies to all of you who have lent us your unending support, including participation in the Mega Man Legends 3 Developer Room. On behalf of the entire Legends team, please accept our sincere apology for failing to meet the expectations of the fans.

Personally speaking, I loved the Mega Man Legends titles. In fact, they were the only Mega Man games I actually liked and was one of the few reasons I would have wanted to pick up a Nintendo 3DS. Capcom has a lengthy Q&A about the decision over at Capcom-Unity.

Oh well. I'm sure Capcom's "criteria" is very well thought-out, meticulous, and efficient in producing products that are sure to be winners, while weeding out the potential failures. So another Rockman title bites the dust, so what? Capcom has enough on their plate as it is, with Devil May Cry and Biohazard: Operation Raccoon City, who has time to make ANOTHER Rockman game? I mean, give them a break, Biohazard: The Mercenaries 3D just came out (smash success no doubt), and already Biohazard: Revelations is around the corner. There's just no room for Rockman when these AAA titles are so much farther into development in comparison. Lets be honest, we want more hardcore action titles with a bit of emo culture. Not some light-hearted action game starring a blue amputee audiophile kid, who gets rejected from the Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 roster. That's why Chris, Jill, Wesker, AND Dante are in it. Those are the cool characters we want to play as...
