Rumor: Battlefield 3 to go Multi-Platform

The former CEO of DICE, Frederick Liljegren, wouldn't be too surprised if the next installment of the Battlefield series, Battlefield 3, found its way onto the consoles in addition to a PC release. While, obviously, this is merely speculation on the part of a former CEO of the company, there is some basis in his statements.

During his time with DICE, Frederick Liljegren worked on the PC side of things, but reports that the franchise was likely moving towards console releases when, or if, the next Battlefield segment rolled out due to declining numbers of PC users (though Battlefield 3 will still be available for PC).

While details are still transparent, at best, surrounding the new release, judging by the tone of the press release given by Liljegren, be prepared to have your mind blown.

Again, nothing is confirmed so far as Battlefield 3 is concerned. Just sit tight and wait for official details to be revealed about the game that every Battlefield fan is eagerly waiting for.

Well it does feel like that will be the likely direction that many of the popular series FPS games are headed. As with all consoles you can only squeeze so much out of them for so long. This might be ok for BF3 to go multi-platform but it would be nice if DICE made sure to deliver PC gamers, modders, clans, etc. something so wonderful it would make them upgrade their systems and tell all their friends and family about the game like they did with BF2.

It never states directly that BF3 will be multiplat. I really hope it will be PC exclusive and make Bad Company 3 multiplat or console exclusive.

As long as it is first made for PC (64 players and up) and then ported to consoles wth less features like only 24 players/med maps...

This is the exact reason i have no anticipation for BF3 whatsoever.

This would of been news if this was still 2002. Multiplatform is the way it is now. Not even dice can give up the $60 base price + Dlc prices that consolers play. Battlefield 3 will be held back the consoles, both in content and quality.

Build for 360, port to pc and ps3, ship.

They should do like with Battlefield 2, separate games for console and PC, not the same exact game for console and PC.

How is this even news to anyone? Of course it'll be multi-platform. Just face it... if any game developers are making games specifically for the PC in this day and age they're idiots, they'll only make an eighth of a the profit you would make from selling for consoles also.

**** the profits, if they did BF2:MC and BF2 separately in 2005 and managed just fine, why not now? That would ensure proper games on both platforms, no consoles bottlenecking the PC.

yeap we knew this day was coming.

BF as we know it is dead on the PC.

RIP BF on PC. it's the new generation of console BFs now.
