The more game modes the better. Any game mode(s) that doesn't/don't do well or has flaws will be naturally selected out of the server rotations. Same goes for maps.

Usually the easier game modes are more popular - Titan in BF2142, and TDM in COD4.

yeah, that's why most popular 2142 map is conquest camp G. i wouldn't say titan or TDM in COD is the "easier" mode. in fact, i'd say domination is probably easier or even FFA from my experience. and for titan, it's either really easy or really hard, depending whether you're assaulting or defending the titan and whether you're just raining down on silos from the titan guns or you're capping silos. but either way, its hard to put out a blanket statement like that.
